Damn, that makes me feel guilty – I haven’t given my copy of that SMiLE box much play.

Listening to “the usual” right now.

Took me a while to really appreciate it – but loved it from about the third time through.

Same here. I couldn’t really appreciate it on my first few listens, but I’ve grown to enjoy it since.

George’s voice is terribly hoarse on this, yet somehow it makes the song even more heartfelt and beautiful. I really dig the slide guitar solo, and the piano is also VERY fab.

^ Have you heard the Dark Horse album? His voice is smooth on that track you linked compared to anything on the subsequent album.

Well, George had a sore throat when he recorded the vocals on the title track in Dark Horse .

No; I suppose I oughta give it a whirl.

Oh, that explains it.ahdn_paul_01

George’s voice always sounds sort of coldy, so I rather wonder what he’d sound like with an actual cold (besides hoarse).

(I sang “Anna (Go To Him)” when I was sick once. It was painful, but it sounded great– just like Lennon’s!)

Anyway, stay-on-topic

I like the album but he had real issues with his voice at the time and on the accompanying tour; they were still apparent when Extra Texture was released.

Gradually arranging it all in my iTunes, up to 1964. Listening-wise going thru it all chronologically and have reached episode 7 of ‘Pop Go The Beatles’. Easily one of the most enjoyable collections i have ever listened to.

Not in any way @Necko. It’s what Apple should do but probably never will. Its the latest most comprehensive fan-created project of the BBC material so far with upgrades and a couple of previously unavailable Beatles performances (‘Love Me Do ‘ from the June 1963 ‘Side By Side’ and ‘Till There Was You ‘ from ‘Pop Go The Beatles’ #13). The set has been mentioned a few times on the forum since it began to surface online at the beginning of the year, one example being here.

There’s some really good soloing from George (and Paul) at the end which is cut out on the proper version.
