Back on topic.muzair just posted this over at the Song structure and terminology thread, to demonstrate the chord progression of the song, and I love it! I especially dig his “horn solo”. I suppose he was on a Revolver kick around then.
I love it too! The vocal is so close to the Revolver original I agree it must have been within weeks of the recording. I’m always doing bits of any instruments I don’t own like that horn. Luckily I’ve never been brave enough to record them! He does that again later for the bass part of I Will. You don’t really hear it until you’ve noticed it for the first time then you realize how cool it is.
Thanks to you and Muzair for posting.

Just noticed how the finger guard on his guitar is above the sound hole because if you were left handed in those days you just re-strung a right handed guitar. He doesn’t have to put up with that by the time he gets to the video of ‘Junk’ above. Oops, off topic yet again…

Yeah, I always noticed that too. If you look, all of Paul’s guitars from those days were like that. On one of his first guitars, the high E string was too small for the larger low-E-string notch, and he had to fill in the notch with a bit of paper.
Back on topic, I just finished listening to Abbey Road . Brilliant, as always. I really dig “The End “.

@trcanberra “The Bakery.” I like it. Each of the thirteen list items is an ingredient, and when we finish the list, our resident bakers (whomever they may be) can take the ingredients and bake something for the Beatles Bible annual bake sale (held, of course, on March 14). A Beach-Boys -songs cake would be delicious, don’t you think? Perhaps you and HKL can have one at your wedding.
Currently listening to the sound of keys typing. (I had to say something on-topic.)

@Egroeg Evoli, I don’t particularly fancy trying to put 13 Beatles songs with fab Rickenbacker bass lines into mum’s Kitchen Aid. All that thumpy bass would throw it off balance.
I’m listening “to the music playing in my head”.

Agreed! And agreed! And agreed yet again! However, I’m pretty sure this was about fifteen years after Revolver was recorded.
I’m always doing things like that too, like guitar solos and things; one of my favourite things is all that WONDERFUL guitar from And Your Bird Can Sing .
You have to remember, he wrote that horn solo, and told George Martin how it went, just like that, by singing it, and George M. wrote it down for Alan Civil, who did the horn. (None of the Beatles knew how to write or read music, you know.) I was surprised he remembered the notes so perfectly… maybe he gave his old copy of Revolver a spin before recording?… he seems to be feeling Revolvery… of maybe he’s just amazing….
Anyway,

Listening to Easy Star All-Stars because their reggae covers of great albums are terrific (also the dub versions are awesome). Autumn’s just starting and it’s a warm afternoon. Next up will be Rushes by the Fireman because my CD just came in the mail yippee!
