Dunno if there are any Dead Heads here… but here’s Ministry (better known for industrial metal) doing a fairly straightforward accoustic cover of Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil” for a Bridge School Benefit concert.

^ Nice. And another Neil Young link – been so many here the last few days
[EDIT] Even the Pearl Jam song I listened to; the album it is off has a dedication to ‘Uncle Neil’.

Time – My favourite ELO album. Rain is Falling for the most ‘beatley’ vocal. Though Hold on Tight is the message that is getting through to me just now

@4or5Magicians Wow, had no idea Ministry would ever perform an all-acoustic song! That was a really nice version – Jourgensen’s got a pleasingly plain, average-guy kind of voice when he isn’t barking through all those megaphones or whatever he normally uses. (Maybe I’m mischaracterizing their recorded work – I only ever heard a couple of records and never played them much.)
Just finished listening (on youtube) to “Maybe We’ve Been Loving Too Long” by Pickettywitch, which I hadn’t heard in like 40 years! (Had the single as a kid, probably inherited from one of my older cousins)

I grew up with that song and still think its good. Was on a cassette called ‘Sixties Mania’. ‘Fire’ was a big hit in the UK back in the day reaching #1, tho so was Ken Dodd singing ‘Happiness’.

@trcanberra , have you really never heard “Fire” before now? HUGE hit! (Maybe not in Australia??) Love his album, too. The psychedelic Tom Jones!
I think Arthur Brown is mentioned on the “Helter Skelter ” page – George was running around with a flaming ashtray on his head during the session as tribute to his act. Or something.
Anyways, listening to this

I was actually on a ship somewhere between the UK and Australia at the time, which is probably how I missed it

Close – assisted passage. On the Fairstar which was a very nice cruise liner. That’s the way to travel, never mind flying. Via the Canary Islands, Cape Town and Perth to Sydney; then train to Brisbane where I lived until we moved down here in 1990.
Umm – sorry for the off-topic

My mom used to watch Tom Jones’ variety show every week At 10, I didn’t really see anything good about him. Fortunately I’ve learned something since then. Fire is a great tune too!

Sorry no link but I’m sure at least 95% of you have it on your hard drives: ATMP – 4th time in a row. Amazing lot of good songs on a triple album, from What Is Life to Art of Dying. A lot of wisdom in those lyrics too.
