Never heard it (not much of a fan of the Beach Boys ) but its wiki entry is interesting with one quoted reviewer (Allmusic’s John Bush) stating “yet another oddball attempt to push The Beach Boys into the contemporary mainstream despite their many songwriting and production flaws“.
What are your thoughts on it @trcanberra.

^ I think it has some of the best ballads the Beach Boys have ever done. It also has Lady Lynda which was a hit in the UK – a song I don’t mind but not one of my favourites. I am not a disco fan but it has one of the best disco tracks I have heard (the only one they attempted luckily). Good Timin’ could have been a hit in the 1960s and is a tip of the hat to those folks who couldn’t quite handle them moving on musically (and the sort of folks who made the sort of comments you quoted).
As I have been listening to them it is apparent that many of their fans and critics were unable to move on from sun, surf, sand and cars in about 1965, and many others couldn’t cope with some of the rest of the band stepping forward when Brian Wilson fell to pieces. With no preconceptions I have been more than pleasantly surprised by most of the albums from 1967-1979, L.A. among them. I really enjoyed the M.I.U. Album (the one before L.A.) which many critics consider one of their worst.
tl;dr – John Bush is an idiot.

An MP3 of the vinyl Please Please Me album in mono thanks to a friend.
It sounds incredible.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Honestly, listening to the Art of McCartney previews just makes me want to listen to the man himself, so now Wings – Junior’s Farm. Though to be fair, Steve Miller’s cover of this song was one of the best so far, I’d say.
If you're lonely (or not!), you can talk to me. .....Hey! Are you a new member on this fine forum and don't know where to go to introduce yourself?

It took me a few listens but I really like it. I still hate those nanana’s though.

Unless they’re followed by “Hey Jude ,” of course.

Indeed.
Never been a fan of nanana’s or lalala’s in songs, except for Hey Jude and The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel, and a few other exceptions probably. Otherwise they sound silly.
Anyway, now listening to Jake Bugg-Simple As This
Lovely song brought to my attention when watching The Fault In Our Stars a while ago, even though I’ve listened to his albums before.

The gold standard (aside from “Hey Jude “) for the na nas was that “Sha Na Na Na, Hey Hey, Goodbye Na” song from the 70s.
Other than that, there was a Chicago song that went on and on with only “La da da da da, da da da da da da da, La da da da” etc. for the longest time, with never nary an actual lyric, until it phases over into a long jazz flute solo.

Highlands, by Bob Dylan. Very interesting imagery…
I was a big fan of Dylan’s old stuff (Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks), but I lost touch with him thereafter.
A friend has urged me to listen to some of his later stuff, so I’m slowly doing so. I quite like his “Time Out of Mind” album; though I’m surprised my friend likes it so much, as the whole album is imbued with somber clouds and darkness and heartache — quite a downer, really, and my friend doesn’t seem to be the type to get into all that.

as part of my long forgotten journey thru Paul’ catalogue and I don’t like it. Paul comes as trying way too hard (no amount of “woo”, ‘yeah” etc generates energy only irritiation), the whole performance feels over-rehearsed to the point of being stiffer than a 1,000 old tree covered in cement, and the backing and harmony vocals grate on my ears. The last track i heard before taking a break was ‘And I Love Her ‘ which has been slowed right down to the point of becoming a dirge. I wanted to skip it after 30 seconds but bored thru.
Hadn’t heard this in years, i’ve found out why.

I’ve been going thru Paul’s solo work in chronological order from ‘McCartney’ and plan to go right up to whatever his most recent release is, so at this moment ‘New’, and taking in all the outtakes, demo’s and alternate mixes that i have from the respective albums as well. I was also listening to select concerts but it became too bogged down so i’ve scrapped that (never part of the original plan).
One of the reason’s it’s slowed down is that in a few albums time it’s ‘Driving Rain ‘ which places very high on my list of worst albums by a Beatle; i detest the whole set with a fiercely burning hatred.
