@Rita Eleanor, I just learned today that Ringo played drums on that song. Cool.

^ and ^^ And a very nice song it is too. Back in the day songs like this helped make me (a little) less sad that the Beatles had split up.

Yeah, in a way, I consider “Take It Away” to be Paul’s best solo song (though I hate having to choose “best” with so many other good ones). Aside from many great qualities the song has which I could go into at some other time, there’s a definite 60s “Downtown” by Petula Clark vibe to it, which is kind of neat.

^ Hey @Linde – this one was partly recorded near you, I listened to it last night:
I reckon it is one of the Beach Boys better 70s albums (well, apart from the really odd Fairy Tale which was a ‘bonus’ inclusion with some of the LP versions and is on the CD I have). It has my all-time favourite Beach Boys track on it – California Saga: California. There is a decent re-recording of it by Al Jardine (who did it originally on Holland) with Neil Young doing a verse and Crosby & Nash on backing vocals (once you get past the Alec Baldwin bit):

That’s cool. I just googled the album and it’s recorded in Baambrugge, which is in the province of Utrecht, apparently. It’s a very small village with a bit over 900 inhabitants, and this was measured in 2001. I have no idea why they picked The Netherlands and specifically that village to record it. Oh and the picture on the front cover of the album is a picture of a canal in Amsterdam. De Kromme Waal. Ah I know where that is!

From the Almighty Wikipedia:
“Just as Carl and the Passions – “So Tough” was coming to print, the Beach Boys , at manager Jack Rieley’s urging, decided to pack up and record their next album in the Netherlands. They felt the change of scenery would make for some inspirational sessions, and perhaps even snap former leader Brian Wilson out of his deep depression.”

Recently I’ve been listening to Sting’s The Dream of the Blue Turtles, Bring on the Night, Nothing Like the Sun, Ten Summoner’s Tales and Mercury Falling, CDs I fell in love with in the ’80s and 90’s. And I’m obsessed with If I Fell and Yes It Is –such wonderful melodies and harmonies.
EDIT: I had to reply this way because I never listen to music when I read or post in the Forum. In fact I only listen to music in the dark with my eyes closed.
“Forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit” (“Perhaps one day it will be a pleasure to look back on even this”; Virgil, The Aeneid, Book 1, line 203, where Aeneas says this to his men after the shipwreck that put them on the shores of Africa)

Funny Paper, I really enjoyed “Compared To What”! Don’t think I’ve ever heard it before, aside from the bit that was included in Scorsese’s “Casino”.
