Isn’t it sort of penne pasta? Bit larger?

Yeah, I think the difference is that penne also has ridges while mostacciolli does not. I don’t have a preference between penne and mostavicciolli though, I just call them both mostacciolli.

I will try mostacciolli unknown. I have learnt something new!

I’m making my way through all the culinary delights of the Oklahoma State Fair. Fancy a deep-fried oreo, anyone? I’m buying.

Tequila beer with spelt crisbreads and feta cheese. :D

We have the Apple Fest up in the East TN mountains the first weekend of October. And they’ll have deep-fried Oreos. And cheesecake on a stick. And homemade apple butter. And caramel popcorn. And brick-oven pizza. It’s a good thing they have the 5K walk, because I’m entering it simply to justify eating all that stuff.

We walked at least 5K today. So I guess it is ok that I had cheese-on-a-stick twice, a corndog, 1 chicken-on-a-stick, a small piece of fudge, one-third of an ice cream cone, and a cherry lemonade.

What I’m NOT eating right now is brown rice – just burnt it (for the second time) because I got caught up reading this forum!

Do you know the Sequatchie Valley in East TN? I remember driving along and seeing an official U.S. roadway sign that said “Breathtaking View Ahead”. I’m glad they gave us warning. We rounded that curve and all of us in the car sounded like John sucking air on “Girl”. I’m surprised to this day that I didn’t run off the road.

They have deep-fried Twinkies also. I’m glad the state fair only comes around once a year. Chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick. Fried mac-n-cheese balls. Oh, so many sinful things to tempt a person at every turn.

It’s not just the south, that’s become a county fair thing all around. Every year they try to top the last with a new concoction. Fried Snickers, fried Coke, fried butter…. I was surprised the one time I tried a deep fried Twinkie to find that the cream had evaporated and it was just like eating a piece of warm pound cake.

You can get fried mac and cheese balls at many sit-down restaurants now.

Turkey cobb sandwich:

Roasted sliced turkey, avocado, bacon, crumbled bleu cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo on an herb roll…with a side of cole slaw.

Yum, yum.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Fried butter and fried coke!? That seems so strange, let alone unhealthy, to me. Wait a second, how can you fry something that’s liquid? a-hard-days-night-paul-4

Yes I do, and I think I know that stretch of road you’re talking about. One thing about living where I do: the scenery is never drab or boring. Especially going up through the mountains on I-26 to get to Asheville.

Fried coke – they batter the syrup somehow, fry it, then add powdered sugar, whipped cream and a cherry in a Coke cup.

Fried butter – same thing with the batter. Drizzle with chocolate syrup.  It’s insane.

Of course, Scotland played its part in the history of this fine culinary tradition…

Yip, Scotland is renown for its Deep-Fried Mars, we have also had Deep-Fried Cadburys Cream Egg and a few others. Never been tempted personally, far too many calories.

A pizza crunch (a pizza encased in batter and then deep-fried) is amazing but incredibly unhealthy – have had it once and thought I was going to die. We know how to offer high class food up here.
