I liked the Simpsons a lot up to about season 12 and then it started to deteriorate, now if i do watch it it’s a laugh free zone. That episode by the way is dedicated to Linda (wiki: The episode is dedicated to the memory of Linda McCartney, who appeared alongside her husband Paul in the episode “Lisa the Vegetarian”.)

Ugh… I hate Valentine’s Day.
I do like The Beatles and The Simpsons, though.
At least the can of worms I reopened brought some good into your day.

Ah, another year without a Valentine. Just realised that now.
I haven’t had one since primary school (I had a ”boyfriend” for 8 years in primary school, who was basically my best friend. His mom always bought me Valentine’s presents. Very sweet) and in secondary school it was always such a fuss. I once had a bf on Valentine’s Day and at our school you could buy a rose for your Valentine every year. I didn’t get one. I got nothing. The rest of the time I never had a Valentine. Everytime I got a bf we always broke up before Valentine’s Day. The day is such a drag and I hate to see all those happy couples, even though I know I would be like that too if I had a bf.

Nobody needs a significant other to define your happiness. If you have one, it’s a bonus, but I was taught long ago that it’s not healthy to have the mindset that you need somebody to fulfill you. Of course, it didn’t stop me from doing the whole “If I had a girl who loves me” routine…
Having said that, we need to get Linde a man so she can enjoy Valentine’s this year!

^^^ Too right. It’s sad the amount of people who think they’ll be happy if they find ”the one”. The hard truth is that if you’re not happy on your own, and you can’t make yourself content, then you probably won’t be happy in a relationship.

Is there something you could do instead of doing whatever it is couples do on V. Day? I’ve already decided that, rather than kid myself it’s just another day, I’m going to listen to my fave music, or maybe watch a film, and probably eat lots of heart-shaped chocolates!

Oh geez I just realised my reply does sound pretty depressiveI don’t need a guy to make me happy, that’s not it. I’m fine with the fact I’m single. I like it, it has it’s benefits too. It’s just that it would be nice to have a Valentine for once.
I didn’t think you sounded depressive, but I still thought I would ask you I like being single, too. I have enough of a task trying to make myself happy, the last thing I want is to have to do is try with someone else as well.

Guess I’m still the oddball. In elementary school, we all gave every person in our class a card. I remember decorating the little white paper bags that would hold all our cards. I remember taking the list of classmates names home and addressing cards to each of them.
In high school, I never expected to get a card or anything from anyone. I just always celebrated the day with friends in a general sort of way. I was a late comer to the idea of having one “significant other” in my life. I didn’t even start thinking along those lines until I was 27. I was too focused on school and career to even think about adding a man to my life. Even now, I still just enjoy the day as a celebration of love in general…and, I’ll admit, a day to get chocolate.

Ah, yes. Well that can never be a bad thing, can it?

I agree with some of the comments made here saying Valentines Day is extremely “commercial”.
I loved it in elementary school where everyone gave everyone a Valentines card. That was fun.
It’s never really been a big deal to me. I have gotten some lovely Valentines gifts over the years, but nowadays, my hubby and I try to go out on or around Valentines day. We don’t really exchange cards or gifts any more. Sometimes we still do.
The worst Valentines day of my life was 12 years ago when I had scheduled surgery on that day to remove my gallbladder. It WASN’T romantic!

My son’s doing the whole “exchange cards” thing in his preschool. He doesn’t want to exchange them with girls, though- “Girls are yucky!” I simply tell him “Some day, son, you’ll understand…”
Gall bladder removal on Valentine’s Day? Yikes… my wife had hers removed a week before our honeymoon, so it wasn’t as romantic as it could have been. Then again, considering I have a history of un-romantic circumstances happening to me around moments that should be romantic (all usually involving food poisoning), I’m sort of surprised I haven’t had kidney stones yet or something. I guess there’s still time.
