…OK, I’m always saying how I don’t care for most ambient techno (or ambient practically-anything, for that matter), but that Orb track of @4or5Magicians had enough interesting things happening from time to time (in between repetitive stretches that bored me) that I’d turn it up, I guess. I’d probably like it more at half the length…like the track I’m contributing. (Wouldn’t be overly surprised if the Orb dudes (dudettes, even?) had this album in their collection…or at least something by their guitarist who ventured out into overly electronic stuff later in the ’70s

Interesting –what do you call it? New Age? It’s interesting, more from an intellectual viewpoint than anything else. Turn it up, although I’ll listen to it just once a year. (Now I’m thinking it’s great music to relax or meditate)
Now for the nostalgic, from the Moonlighting soundtrack:
Al Jarreau – Moonlighting Theme.
(You can find a slightly different version with more bass here, but I just had to post the one with David Addison and Maddie Hayes too)

It’s usually filed under “krautrock” (because German) but electronic dudes and certain types of freaks would even call it acid rock or proto-metal or something. I never feel the urge to listen more than yearly myself, either!
Hm…I only watched “Moonlighting” on occasion and remember nothing about the theme except that Jarreau sang it. Song has that typical beige mid-80s production that I know and hate so much, but the song itself is OK and Al can sing, even though he’s not my taste at all. (I might like one of his early pure jazz albums, who knows?) Turn it up just a little, I guess.
Ok, I vaguely knew the song, but I really got to love it two summers ago after seeing Harvey Keitel in “Fingers” proclaim it (gun in hand) as the most musically sophisticated song of 1958.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I’m sorry @Von Bontee, but I’ll turn it down. The Harvey Keitel scene must be glorious no doubt, but the song has aged –in my opinion. Sorry about that.

Only the Spanish duophonic mono mix.
‘Glad All Over ‘ by the Dave Clark Five. Replaced ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand ‘ in the UK charts and led to stories questioning if the Beatles and their sound was going to be old hat (i hate the song).

I hope we’re still allowed to post non-Beatles selections in “What are you listening to right now?” I mean, I don’t mind the similar limitations being applied to some of those forum games, since games are basically frivolous anyways. But along with @Necko’s listening thread, I think this one performed a useful service. I like hearing new music, I like experiencing what my fellow Beatles fans enjoy listening to when they aren’t playing their #1 band. I really can’t understand the point of this new restricted playlist – it’s now basically just another glorified “favourite Beatles songs” list thread.
EDIT: OK, I’ve re-read the Forum rules changes, and it says that games be Beatle-only and require a degree of skill. Turning it up or down requires no skill at all, whether the thread is all-Beatle or not. So, maybe the thread should be locked entirely. Or, alternatively, maybe it should be re-classified and moved out of the Games subforum back into the general ATN section…and the all-Beatles stipulation be removed, since it’s not really a game at all. (Not competitive, anyways.) Just a suggestion…

Sorry Von B, you’re right, this isn’t really a forum game and I’d curtailed some good discussions on non-Beatles music. I’ve moved it into All Together Now . Ignore the Beatles-only rule I mentioned upthread.

As we can ignore The Beatles only rule, I’ll post a song!
Here is a song by a band that only made two albums, but their debut was amazing! They went on to inspire a lot of bands that would become part of the Britpop scene. This was the first song I heard by them:

Zig laughed (loudly enough for @Linde to hear)
That means you will have to turn it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy up, Linde, in order for us to here it from The Netherlands.
I nearly said the same, myself.
Great minds…
(and @Zig, you can’t grin cheekily and say, “Put things differently?”)

Hope this works @Beatlebug & @Zig.
Not exactly the same version as @Linde. She linked to the 7″ single version. I’ve linked to the 12″. And as someone who was there at the time of baggy and Madchester, it was the 12″ that mattered.

Turn it up, although I might only listen to it semi-annually. It’s interesting in an interesting way.
Okay… new song…. hmm.
