The Serials Solutions database doesn’t have all the information for the Academic Search Premier database correct. How aggravating. Looks like I’ll be making a phone call to them tomorrow. My library (and lots of other libraries) are paying them lots of money. They should get their act together. Why did little ol’ me out in Oklahoma have to discover this???

I learnt that Karen Carpenter was a drummer.Pete does have a chance to make it after all.
I hear that she was quite good, actually– and preferred to be known as ‘a drummer who sang’. Pete didn’t sing, did he?

Fixed it for ye
Anyway, good for you! I’m sure you won’t need a tuner for long.

Pete did sing. https://www.beatlesbible.com/p…..pete-best/
After some weeks The Beatles began to perform once again. One song from this period was Pinwheel Twist, written by McCartney and sung by Pete Best.
“Paul wrote the song and asked me to do it. He coupled it with Joey Dee’s hit The Peppermint Twist. I used to get up and do the twist on stage and Paul played my drums. It was a little novelty act and it went down well with the fans.” ~Pete Best
Of the members of The Beatles, Pete Best was the most popular with the girls in their audiences. Other songs said to have been sung by him during this time are Boys , Matchbox and Wild In The Country.

Thank you Silly Girl ^^
And after trying just a few chords and fiddling with the thing for a bit, I have much respect for all guitar players. Past, present, future. I salute you with slightly sore fingers. There’s a long road ahead and I go slow but I’m going to learn some guitar!

Yep. Both drummers sang Boys and both hated it.
I'm Necko. I'm like Ringo except I wear necklaces.
I'm also ewe2 on weekends.

I’m used to it now, but I remember how gruelling those first weeks were. You have to be good at grin-and-bear-it-ing to learn guitar, but hang in there– keep at it and your fingers will get toughed up soon!

@Beatlebug do you use a pick or fingers mainly?
If you can't log in and can't use the forum go here and someone will help you out.

Both. I use a pick for precision and volume, my thumb for quiet strumming, and my fingers for finger-picking. I don’t do any specific disciplined style of finger-picking, though, I just use my fingers in any arrangement that sounds good and feels good.
I thought this was Things We Learned Today, not Getting-To-Know-BBers Questions… oh well, I guess everyone will learn something today.

…To play ‘Us And Them’ on the piano.
I’m no pianist, but the piano part is really easy, and in a very leisurely tempo, too.

Learning the bass line to All My Loving has renewed yet again my appreciation of Paul’s genius.
That having been said… it’s not that difficult. It’s just insanely cool.

Learnt by ear or sheet? I have to check the sheet for some of the fiddly bits that are hard to hear, odd how the middle eight sounds relaxed without the frantic guitar triplets of the verses.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

By ear
(I’m telling you, my sheet-music skills are mostly nonexistent suck.)
I couldn’t hear it very well on the record, so after a few passes at what I could hear I finally cheated a bit and found a fairly decent isolated bass line on that marvel of marvels YouTube.
–odd how the middle eight sounds relaxed without the frantic guitar triplets of the verses.
I think it’s also an effect of those cool ooh’s in the background.

I just kinda figured out that it isn’t quite as convenient to keep your records on the wall if you’re going to actually be playing them.
But my walls would look so bare without those happy Beatlefaces! (except for Yesterday … and Today, in which they look like rather unhappy dead fish)

According to npr.org, Paul McCartney said that Karen Carpenter had the best female voice in the world:
But the fact remains that I’m not alone in my musical estimation of Karen Carpenter’s gift — a number of music-industry luminaries have extolled the virtues of her vocals. Paul McCartney, for one, said that she has “the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful and distinctive.”
