Monogamy became the norm in Western civilization sometime between the sixth and ninth centuries. Even then, men had wide latitude to have extramarital affairs until the nineteenth century.

I'm also ewe2 on weekends.

Only until then?

A fair question (funny too ). Maybe he should have written “Even then, men had widely accepted latitude…
It still goes on today, but it’s not widely accepted.

It probably isn’t. Humans, vultures, and a certain type of tapeworm are the only species on earth that are monogamous. And with humans, it’s entirely something that’s done because the culture is already that way.

Yeah, I was really sweating thinking of a good way to phrase it and I’m still not satisfied with the final result.

Since this topic may never come up again on the forum, guess this is as good as time any to ‘fess up. My great-great-grandfather was one of the first disciples of Joseph Smith (founder of The Church of Latter Day Saints or Mormons). In order to escape persecution he travelled on the wagon train that eventually ended up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was married to four women at the same time, maintained 5 separate homes/cabins and eventually had 22 children (not including 4 that died at childbirth). In the late 60s his direct offspring rented a ranch and organized a family reunion. They created a book containing the family tree (Mormon’s are heavily into genealogy) and at the time I had over 1,200 living cousins.

…And there’s two things I learned today because most of my days I barely learn anything besides how to add in science. I mean, come on, we already learned how to add, and this ain’t math! Can we just learn more about weight and mass, please and thank you!

Mass is constant while weight depends on the gravity. Earth’s gravity I think is 9.7

9.8 meters per second squared. Oh, the random things I know off the top of my head.
You’re welcome

It isn’t, it’s a social construct (there is no hipsterish smiley so poor Stu has to suffer for it- sorry Stu)
In reality, I don’t give a toss, so long as whoever I’m going out with it isn’t seeing someone on the side than everyone else can do what they like! (Although if say it’s a man with 5 wives, they would only get tax credits for a single couple, not five, deal with it!*).
I’m also for you getting children’s allowance up to and including your 5 child, any excess child doesn’t get benefits. If you need to buy a minibus to carry your family around, then you need to sort our your family planning (this coming from an Irish girl, where having 10 children used to be common up until around the 70s >.>) There will be exceptions to this i.e. if after having 3 single children, some person had triplets/four single children then twins, than there would be at least some allowance paid up as it was unexpected and uncontrollable.
Also allowance will be means funded, i.e. a poor family struggling to live from day to day will get far more than a rich family, worth $500 million and living in a mansion
Also child benefit will be given to a child if they are in further education (i.e. past high school) until they are 21 years old- if they live with their parents it goes to their parents’ bank account, if they live on their own it goes to their own bank account. It will stop students being as stressed as they’re today trying to balance work and study- leading to better grades. It will also reduce the ridiculous debt that students get into.
*Vote ASJ for U.S President 2036**, saving you, the taxpayer, your hard-earned dollar! (I’m still working on the slogan).
And this has just become ASJ’s political policies (note these may change between now and 2036).
**I plan on being able to become U.S president in 2036 as well, just because I wasn’t born in America, don’t mean I can’t lead America to glory, goddammit!

What would I fight for? This forum is run pretty smoothly, already. I don’t think anyone has major problems with it.
Today, I learned that J.D Rockefeller, at his death was worth $336 billion in today’s money, making him the wealthiest American in history.
Anyone want to help me dig for oil? I’ll split any findings equally.

You could fight for whether the Beatles Bible would have an official language and if so what version of that language?

I learned that George, being his usual generous self, gave Paul an incredibly rare and expensive and fabulous Gibson ukulele built in the 1920s.
