I learned that today’s date was when the first Rolling Stone magazine came out and that John Lennon was the first person on the cover! (I assumed it was Bob Dylan.) It made me feel stupid but what a pleasant surprise.a-hard-days-night-john-1

I learned that I can pack 50 moving boxes before giving up with complete mental and physical exhaustion.

Luckily all of the important stuff has been packed, like Beatles CDs.

Well, unless you consider food important.

On the old rotary phones, the dial tone was F. I used to tune my guitar to it.

I think I’ve heard that before.  I believe it still works if you can find a landline phone (which is a big “if” these days), but the tone is A now, rather than F (In the U.S., at least.  I don’t know if it’s different in other countries).

Now that would have been beautifully ironic if it had been Bobby. It would make him look Like A Rolling Stone. a-hard-days-night-john-1

The first version of Buddy Holly’s ‘That’ll Be The Day’ didn’t feature Norman Petty as a composer, the second version (the big hit) did without Holly knowing until after the fact (a common practice at the time – see ‘Tune In’).

The Crickets aren’t the vocalists on tracks such as ‘Oh Boy’. Petty got other acts to add them in so to continue the vocal backing sound on the hit ‘That’ll Be The Day’. Buddy and The Crickets knew nothing about this until the records came out. This practice continued after Buddy death where Petty didnt get the Crickets to add vocals tou unreleased Holly tracks and home demos (the last bit I did know).

Parent-teacher conferences are seriously the most awkward thing when you are sitting there with the teacher. I just kind of nodded my head at times, and went “Yes” “Meh” and a few other words because it was quite awkward

Be glad your parents care enough to show up to these conferences. I taught school for 5 years. I think I saw 2 parents the whole time. Very sad.

Wow, that’s quite surprising. In my school district, about 3/4 of the parents go to the conferences. The only reason my parents go is because they can get REALLY  concerned about my grades and the fact they want to meet my teachers (my parents met 4 out of 9 of all of them this semester).

Children younger than 12 months old can die if given honey.

Wild honey may contain spores of Clostridium botulinum. When ingested by infants, these spores and their toxins can cause serious health problems and—if left untreated—death (NIH, 2011; Tanzi & Gabay, 2002). For this reason, children under 12 months of age should not be given honey

If pregnant you should avoid eating haggis as it contains liver.

We only buy raw honey – the label warns against this.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Andy White, he who did better than Bernie Purdie and did actually shunt Ringo out of the way, also played on Lulu’s hit ‘Shout’ and Tom Jones ‘Its Not Usual’.

Ok, i found this out yesterday but I forgot and then read it again today.

Prosecco is cheaper than champagne and very yummy with fruit juice. Not really something I learnt, but it’s a good tip if you want an alternative Christmas drinky! a-hard-days-night-paul-7
