@Ron Nasty if I recall, Glinda showed Dorothy the value of her shoes and how simple it was to use them, and Dorothy chose to use them to go home (back to the good old farm). So I would argue that Glinda’s role could be seen as a political awakening or education that led to a reset to true equality of opportunity, a kind of return to the American dream. I don’t see it as particularly revolutionary.
I’m only slightly familiar with the book, though, and I’m very tired, so I could be misinterpreting/misremembering it.
…Goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can’t plant me in your penthouse
I’m going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods,
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh, I’ve finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road

Interesting theory, I don’t know much about that election but I like the idea that Dorothy is representative of the typical all-American girl who rejects the illusions of the emerald city and returns home beyond the yellow brick road, as the song goes.

lovelyritametermaid, BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Joaquin Phoenix was born Joaquin Bottom. You wonder how his parents didn’t see it. Whacking Bottom. I bet that was fun at school. No wonder he was reborn as a Phoenix…
You have to wonder about the names parents give though. My younger half-brother, my mum and stepfather gave the Christian names Kaz Hugh. I thought that was nuts.
Why do parents give their children bad puns as names?

Haha that’s hilarious OMG does that mean his brother was River Bottom? Their parents must’ve had an… unusual… sense of humor.

Wa as in water, though, yes? And not wa as in the sound a baby makes? I don’t see it
River Bottom is hilarious, though. Kind of a mean thing to do to a kid. But I guess it’s already going to be bad with that last name.

And if you don’t see how that becomes Whacking Bottom… (well, not that exactly, when he was a Bottom rather than a Phoenix…)
A most exasperating young lady…

River’s Phoenix middle name was ‘Jude’, fun fact- named after of course the icon, Jude Law >.>
My friend saw Jude Law in London once, he went to say hi, accidentally said “Hey Jude ” and got told to f**k off. Serves him right, I bet if Jude Law had a penny for every time he heard that he wouldn’t have to be in the Fantastic Beasts series or screwing his children’s nanny.

Today I learned (from my history teacher, not that credible a source but the fact is pretty interesting) that Batman was acutely inspired by Teddy Roosevelt in that Ted, when he was NYPD’s Commissioner, used to walk the streets at night in a black cape and cane to make sure that the New York City’s police force was doing its job and making sure the streets were safe. (Bruce Wayne = extremely wealthy man who risks his life making sure the city’s safe; Teddy Roosevelt = extremely wealthy man who risked his life to make sure the streets were safe)
I also learned that in my friends’ neighborhood there’s a street called “Chevy Chase Street”.

Beiber beats Elvis’s chart record (youngest solo artist to have seven US #1 albums) however
Billboard, which compiles the US chart, confirmed that Bieber had beaten Elvis’s chart record – but added that, if groups were taken into account, all four members of The Beatles were younger than Bieber when they scored their seventh number one.
The band’s oldest member, Ringo Starr , was 25 when Rubber Soul hit the charts in 1966; while the youngest member, George Harrison , was just 22.
Bieber also had a head-start on his competitors. He released his first number one album when he was 16, whereas Elvis was 21 and George Harrison was 20.
It always amazes me a) just how young they were when achieving what they did, and b) how regularly they appear whenever new records are being set. It’s taken 50+ years and a complete overhaul of the music industry and how it is consumed just to get close to matching their success.

I just learned most of ‘Dear Prudence “, which has gained me a far, far greater appreciation for the song. Give me about six weeks of self-isolation or so and I should have learned it well enough to record a demo of it… no promises.

What I learned today is that transit flights from Singapore are cancelled, which means I won’t be able to go back home for a while. I’ve been meaning to learn For No One on piano, but I have to get back to my piano first.
