Me and brother destroyed a copy of Kylie’s 1988 “classic” ‘Kylie’* when we were young. Is that on the same level as destroying ‘Thriller’?
*I have no idea why we owned this album.

It isn’t. Good riddance. You probably made better noise destroying it than playing it.
By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

I dont mind Kylie at all but her SAW material is pretty lame – the few re-recordings of that material on ‘Abbey Road Sessions’ are so superior.

My local second-hand store (actually called Penny Lane Vintage) had a copy of the Ringo album the last time I was there. I went back on Saturday to try to buy it, but it was gone. However, I bought this instead for £2. I’ve no idea what these things are worth, if anything, but I don’t see them very often.
Shame she didn’t have any Beatles demonstration discs, because I’ve never seen any in real life (unfortunately they always remind me of celebrity paedophile Jimmy Savile because of this picture).

I saw the standard issue of this for 6.99 GBP on ebay. I couldn’t find any info on the promotional copy, but I didn’t search very hard. If you care to, the catalogue number is what you search for – DB 5225 (or something like that). A lot depends on the condition of the disk. If there are few, minor scratches, it’s worth 4 times as much as a record with a few, crackly scratches. My guess is people will be glad to fork over a fair bit for a promotional release (w/fancy cover and label in EX condition) of a song written by that particular duo. It’s got to be quite rare, and it seems anything with those names on it is worth more and more every year. My advice: Don’t sell it!!!

JoeThanks for that. I hadn’t looked up past sales, but I doubt the normal single itself is worth much. There are a few on Discogs for less than I paid (though with postage). I have the UK version but the label is different from the standard Columbia one (which looks much like the Parlophone labels of that era).
I don’t tend to buy records with a view to selling them – I’d rather pick up interesting releases for my collection, which is why I got this. But I would like to know how many copies were made, because they must have had quite a limited run.
I’ll give it a spin tonight. It looks like the disc has barely been played, if at all. The cover is obviously shabby though.
The shop had a few other demonstration discs, though nothing Beatley. I might pop back and see what I missed.

A slight update to this: according to this excellent guide, there were just 250 demo discs made of Love Me Do , making it one of the rarest Beatles records made. One sold for £8,500 on eBay in 2013, another for £11,100 in 2011, another (in worse condition) for just £1,950 the same year.
Made for both radio and for the record shops, all U.K. Parlophone and Apple 7″ Beatles singles had promotional Records.
A Promo is always a copy of the exact performance and mix that is to be sold in the record shops. It is pressed from the very same plates used to make the commercially-available 45rpm singles. The first 12 Beatles singles, from “Love Me Do ” trough “Paperback Writer “(*) all had promo’s on white-label disks with black ink and, on the Aside, a large red “A”over the face of the label.
Records like “Day Tripper /We Can Work It Out “, issued as double-A-sided disks, had the red “A” on both sides of the record label.* excepted for “She Loves You , Can’t Buy Me Love , I Feel Fine , and Help !”
EMI did not prepare a demonstration record for these records.Beginning with “All You Need Is Love (**)”, Promo’s were made with a lime-green background and a White “A” on the intended Aside.
These lime -green promo’s had slightly-smaller labels, so the labels fit within the circle of ridges surrounding the label area, instead of overlapping onto them, as the previous promo’s did.** EMI did not prepare a demonstration record for “Strawberry Fields Forever “
Demo copies of EMI records were issued in “Top Pop” sleeves.
Demo’s from “Love Me Do ” untill “A Hard Day’s Night ” would have featured a blue, yellow or red sleeve.
I don’t have figures for how many demos of subsequent Beatles singles were made, but I’d imagine it was many more than 250.
I’m definitely going to keep looking for demo Beatles singles, although there are counterfeits out there. It seems it’s quite easy to print off a label with a big red A on it and glue over a normal Parlophone one. Who’d have thought it?

I got a nice (gently) used Audio-Technica turntable for my birthday, so I’m finally able to spin my records again!!
Right now I’m ripping some albums so I can listen to them on the go. I made it so that I could monitor the music through the computer speakers while recording, so I’m enjoying it at the same time!
Doing Regatta De Blanc right now because that’s one of the albums I only have on vinyl. Bring On The Night just ended.

I Think that Rolling Stone should do a cover story of The Rolling Stones covering "Like a Rolling Stone" or if a Type of Beetle was named after The Beatles.
An eight-album John Lennon vinyl box set is listed on Amazon.co.uk, due for release on 8 June.
The pre-order is priced at £154, which is steep (roughly £20 per album), but this might come down before release. Universal’s box sets tend to be on the pricey side (eg the Roxy Music one).
The albums are the same as in the 2010 Signature Box. There’s no Two Virgins , Life With The Lions , Wedding Album , Live Peace In Toronto 1969 or most of the posthumous albums (Milk And Honey is the exception). Nor is there Shaved Fish, which Universal reissued on vinyl not so long ago, and which means this box set misses out the non-album singles.
I’ll pass, because I have all these on vinyl and CD already. Also, like the Beatles stereo box, they’re mastered from digital files. Some vinyl purists believe this to be worse than genocide.
Universal Music are proud to present Lennon, a stunning new 8LP boxed collection featuring John Lennon ’s eight solo studio albums on heavyweight, 180-gram audiophile vinyl with faithfully replicated original album art.
John Lennon ’s eight solo studio albums were remastered from their original analogue masters in 2010, by Yoko Ono and a team of engineers led by Allan Rouse at Abbey Road Studios in London and by George Marino at Avatar Studios in New York. These LP’s have been newly cut to vinyl from those 96k digital files for Lennon, cut by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios and manufactured for the world by Optimal Media in Germany.
Each of the Lennon collection’s LPs is an authentic reproduction of its U.K. original, in its sound and visual presentation. In keeping with the original album artwork, Imagine contains reproductions of its two postcards, poster and inner bag, Some Time In New York City includes reproductions of its original postcard and inner sleeve, Walls And Bridges includes its sleeve with two fold-over flaps, an eight-page booklet and inner sleeve, and Mind Games , Double Fantasy and Milk And Honey also include reproductions of their original inner sleeves.
The eight studio albums are; John Lennon /Plastic Ono Band (1970), Imagine (1971), Some Time In New York City (1972), Mind Games (1973), Walls And Bridges (1974), Rock ‘n’ Roll (1975), Double Fantasy (1980) and Milk And Honey (1984).

From the article:
The cover deliberately reached out to fans by giving them, for the first time, a cover they could pore over, one that could hold the attention as long as the record itself.
THEY CHOSE PEPPER OVER REVOLVER
HOW COULD THEY
I’M NOT SPEAKING TO THEM ANYMORE
I know, I know, Pepper’s a lot more famous. But I still think Revolver ‘s cool-n-quirky-er.

I assume they’re including the moustache insert as part of the album package itself – that’s what makes it an interactive album. You could listen to the album while dancing about in the yard with a cutout moustache under your nose, just like Mark Lewisohn did.

I can’t believe I forgot to post this, but about two or three months ago (I KNOW I KNOW) a friend gave me three Beatles LPs she found somewhere– Meet The Beatles, Help ! (US), and Yesterday … and Today. Yes, they’re all Capitol ones, and no, I don’t actually have a turntable (so I can’t tell you what the audio quality is like, as I haven’t played them), but even so, ’tis absolutely fabulous to actually have vinyl records. I have them proudly displayed upon my wall.

Along those same lines, a news story I heard on the radio this morning reported that sales of e-books are slowing at a high rate.
Could it be that people are listening to albums and reading books again? Oh happy day! I must send out a wire and spread the news!!
The way things were intended to be?! That’s good news.
Reading on a screen is not the same and digital files are compressed s***e!!
