I discovered ukulele underground’s play along series on youtube, worth going and having a look to try some tunes out. Putting this here to demonstrate just how wide the ukulele’s style range can be, funking it up!
(side note: I accidentally used BBcode and it worked! yay?)

Reggie came in the mail today! I was able to put the Aquila low G back on Sally. Reggie is strung with Super Nyglut, which is a fairly quiet string to put on a soprano, and I’m not sure Reggie being painted can really do best with that style string, but I’ll play them out and maybe they’ll sound a little less dull. The Aquila Reds are much brighter and thinner (although the low G is pretty chunky on a soprano), and I might be tempted to buy another set for him. Otherwise he sounds fine, basically the same Kala Soprano shape except a smaller heel and if I’m not mistaken a few mm’s shorter scale and smaller tuner buttons. And of course looking very pretty in red, yellow and green! The only other oddity is that inside the soundboard it has a specific Ukeadelic label with the model number but NO date stamp so I don’t know how old he is 🙁 Now I need a case or two, 3 ukes is getting cluttery.

This bloke seems to have an awesome collection of ukulele-related source material, I hope to grab a DVD when he makes them available. Meanwhile the CPLUG songbook is full of great easy tunes to practice. And what I like is that they’ve gone for more interesting and sometimes better chords that a lot of uke versions of songs out there.
It’s been three months and I’m three ukes in. My chords are coming together well, but I think it’ll take me a year or so to strum to the standard I often see on youtube, and I expect that: its easy to play ok, hard to play really well. The other day I restrung my terrible Chinese dreadnought steel string guitar, and wrote another dumb country song parody about Star Citizen (please ignore the lyrics and the occasional rude word, I write these things for the pleasure of idiots on the internet). Playing a guitar again is very weird after ukes, and it decided me to buy a smaller steel string guitar because the dreadnought is hard to finger and sit on my lap, but the sound here is Cedric on the left, the guitar in the middle and Reggie on the right and it is a really nice mix which I want to revisit.

Nice ukeing ewe did there! (Sorry, couldn’t resist ) at least, what I could hear of it. The ukes were a little low in the mix, I thought. The bass was grand though
Seeing this thread come up reminds me: how’s your ukeing coming along (or not), @sigh butterfly?

My mixing is probably to blame, I need to use speakers as well as headphones when I mix, it probably needs a little boost in the mids but the uke’s are there.

@Beatlebug I haven’t made the purchase yet but I am actively looking. Also I’ve found a teacher and that’s a start . I found him performing at an art and wine festival on both uke and bango. He’s seems a little eccentric (he was wearing a top hat and calls himself Dr. Windslow’s Medicine Show) but he plays great and the price is right. The main thing I have accomplished toward my uke is fulfilling my end of the bargain with my wife – meet Charlie

Very glad to hear that you’re still ukeing, I had a go at There’s A Place today, but it’s a lot easier in the key of C than the original E, both for my vocal range and some of the chords.

Bumping the thread for another ukulele demonstration. I wrote and recorded this today, this is a wide stereo mix to show off the ukes a little better. The kazoos you hear is my new 6″ performer fatboy made by George “Doc Kazoo” Collins over in Florida. He’s making me a second kazoo which I hope will work better for me in a harmonica neckbrace so I can go out busking with it. I’m going to go to my first ukulele festival in Melbourne in October too. Anyway, this is yet another satirical song I wrote about a silly game for the amusement of some people on a forum, there are no naughty words but it is heavily ironic.

Addendum: a friend who regularly satirises the same game used the song in his video with lyrics, so it might explain it further, enjoy:

I did wonder whether the “Punch and Judy” laughing into a kazoo was pushing it, but no one seems too concerned. Ukuleles make songwriting a lot easier for me I must say.

The Cavern Club has brought out three Beatles/Cavern-themed ukuleles. Not sure who the manufacturer is, but they’re cheap (and might not sound amazing, but I suppose that’s not really the point).

What an interesting idea – I like the look of the first and third ones, they definitely look cheap though, no fret markers. On the other hand, they have similar designs on guitar straps.

She’s great, and proves a couple of things: you don’t need flash, you just need to feel it. Also, no one ever beat a cute kid with an instrument on a game show, it’s just the law.

At the ripe old age of sixteen I don’t think I qualify for the ‘cute kid with instrument’ category (Cute teen with instrument, anyone?). People have always thought me older than my age anyway, a side effect of being tall and liking 50-year-old music.
Neither am I interested in being ‘the next Taylor Swift’!
