Hi all.
We are immensely sad to share the news that Mark (Ron Nasty) recently passed away after a long and dignified battle with ill-health. Mark was a deeply respected and much admired member of the forum who through his incredible love and wealth of knowledge of the Beatles contributed so much to the forum, all of which will be deeply missed. There is far too much to start to list all he gave to here; it simply will not be the same without him around.
Mark also made a number of friends through the forum, and we know that his passing will be heavily felt by so many for reasons aside from the Beatles. Please feel free to post your thoughts and memories in this thread if you wish, but if anyone requires a space to air their thoughts privately please remember the mods can be contacted via a PM.
I’ve pinned this message to the top of the thread too, on page one.

When I think of this place I think of Ron Nasty. He had a regular presence here. He was immensely knowledgeable about The Beatles and absolutely loved them. A large part of the soul is now missing… but we’ll “just have to carry on.”
Rest in peace.

Very, very sad news to hear. A central part of this community, and I’m sure his invaluable contributions will be sorely missed.
Rest in peace Mark.

I’m so sorry to learn of Mark’s passing, and I will certainly miss him. Although I never met him in person, it feels to me like the loss of a relative or close friend.
Rest in peace, Mark.

Very devastating news….I dont know what to say, other than I’m glad for Mark’s immense contributions to the forum over the decade, and always enjoyed interacting with him, and am heartbroken that there’ll be no more of any of that…
Oh, and it can’t be said loud or often enough: F**K YOU, cancer (Or “feck you…”, to use Ron Nasty’s parlance.)
Rest in peace, sir

This is a great loss indeed. The forum won’t be the same without our Roncyclopedia around to ask any random Beatles question no matter how trivial or obscure.
All of us are feeling the loss, but I know some Forumpudlians were particularly close to Mark, and my heart goes out to them particularly. If y’all need a sympathetic ear for your memories and grief, “If you’re lonely you can talk to me” – my PMs are open.
I shall join Von Bontee in a hearty Feck Cancer!

This sucks.
Was looking forward to the day he would pass me on the top posters. Now that will never come to pass.
Ron Nasty and I didn’t get a long at times though he always felt genuine. When I first joined, he was one of the first to welcome me here and helped a lot with new posters joining the site in general.
It’s gonna be weird knowing that he’s dead now. Yeah it sucks.

I was deeply sad and shocked to read the news this morning, it feels like the death of a family member.
Ron and I joined the forum at similar times and while we may not have always seen eye to eye, his abundance of knowledge about all things Fab really contributed to the running of the forum, and his presence will be sorely missed. It definitely feels like the closing of a book on the Fab Forum history.
Whenever Now And Then finally comes out, my first listen will be dedicated to him. My thoughts are with all the people who were close to Ron, I’m so, so sorry for your loss .

I’ll try to finish this post without too many tears flowing. Which means, I better be brief.
There’s a John Lennon lyric perfect for how I’m feeling: “I don’t want to face it, oh no.” This is the death in my life that has hit me the hardest.
I’ll never hear his voice again. I won’t get to go visit him again. I can’t send him another birthday or Christmas card. And I already have his birthday card for next year.
We talked at least once a month via Zoom. I met him IRL 3 times. Ahhh Mom and Ohhh Boy both met him.
I always figured I’d get to say goodbye. Like the doctor would tell him he had X number of months to live, and we could have a proper parting time.
I learned so much about the Beatles and about the workings of all things UK from him. Both fascinate me so much. There’s so much more I wanted to learn from him.
I know he could be cantankerous at times, but the good far outweighed the bad.
I’ll miss him so much.
“At the end of the end…”

This hit particularly hard. As some of you may know, I lost a great-uncle recently, and it came as a complete surprise, as I had not heard of his illness and I had not seen him since before Covid. I always thought I was going to see him again at some point.
I think James Taylor uttered some of the most gently heart-rending words in the English language when he sang, “I always thought I’d see you again.”

I cannot find the quote but in the ‘Anthology’ book in relation to Ringo leaving in 1968, Paul says along the lines of “you go thru life and you never stop to say to someone “you know what, I think you’re great” and it’s always resonated with me. It can be very difficult at times for so many reasons or life carries us away but moments like these should be a reminder to let anyone who you value know it, and do it often as you don’t know when it no longer be possible.
But in times when someone dies I do remember the advice the Maharishi gave to John when Brian E died: don’t be overwhelmed by grief but remember the happy times instead. Mark brought a lot of happiness, joy and friendliness to so many on here.
I will also add that at times he could come across not in the best way here (Mark would himself admit that) but I met him in London once for a couple of hours and I genuinely had a great time chatting about the Beatles over a couple of pints. And if anyone thinks that might be slight praise, I have social anxiety, hate small talk and get so easily bored in people’s company. To sit and enjoy some’s company is not a common occurrence for me.
Mark had such a presence on this forum and I only hope he knew how valued he was.

I’m going through some of my old email threads with Mark, just heartbroken over this. He was so generous with his knowledge and music. Many times over the Holiday season, my favorite gift came via email from Mark.
I heard it said that every Dylan fan secretly believes they understand Dylan’s music the best. Thats what makes his music so personal and special. I’d probably agree with that, but I always conceded to myself and others, “yeah I’m pretty into the Beatles, Dylan, etc, but theres this guy I know from the Beatles forum who’s knowledge is legitimately baffling.”
That he dedicated so much of his energy to sharing that knowledge with us I will always be grateful. I wish I could say more, but I’ve typed out and deleted a couple of different paragraphs, and can’t seem to find the words. So i’ll let Bob do it for me, whose music he absolutely adored and helped me get into on a deeper level.
I’d forever talk to you
But soon my words
Would turn into a meaningless ring
For deep in my heart
I know there is no help I can bring
Everything passes
Everything changes
Just do what you think you should do
And someday maybe
Who knows, baby
I’ll come and be cryin’ to you
Rest in Peace Ron Nasty
