I knew they were on Ed more than once, but I didn’t know they did that particular number.

You can buy quite a cheap boxed DVD set that has the complete episodes from each of their appearances – it’s quite fascinating watching them in context.
Now, back to the movies.

And here is Mr Bean………In the movie……..’Mr Bean’s A Beatle’……You know there’s a rumour that Mr Bean died and was replaced with a lookalike called Paul…??
Plot twist. They replaced each other.

I got the days wrong I thought it was the same here as the States……but it opens today. So 4 and a bit hours to wait.Hopes aren’t sky high. Mixed reviews ………..though usually i disagree with critics…….so maybe that’s a good sign.
I must say I’m not surprised by the mixed reviews; I almost expected them after seeing the release date – after the summer blockbusters and before the Christmas releases – it’s often what happens to big-budget films that the makers expect to struggle a little against stronger competition.
Reading between the lines of the reviews it looks like it will be entertaining enough but perhaps not up to the same high standards of the other Craig entries in the series.

‘Skyfall’ was praised to the rafters and beyond (IIRC) when it came out and i found it to not be that great (tho its rated 7.8 on IMDB). I know nothing about the new Bond film, i saw the first trailer once ages ago and cant remember anything, so go in knowing nothing. Looking forward to it.
Have they started doing searches at the cinema (bag/cavity) before you go in or can i still smuggle thru a pack of maltesers bought from the local poundshop in my bag. I’m not paying £7.95 for a small tub of popcorn that’s been heated up for 10 hours.

I caught up with a few movies from this year I’d missed (STILL haven’t seen Kingsman, for some reason my DVD mail service keeps avoiding sending it to me): the best was Spy, in which Jason Statham hilariously sends his own typecasting up, and terrific backup performances by Peter Serafinowicz, Miranda Hart and Allison Jannay, but Melissa McCarthy crowns it all, she’s got amazing range as a comic actor. It’s very broad funny and rude (an R in America apparently but only MA+ here), and my only quibble is that its a bit long. I sat through the first quarter of Jurassic World and then I groaned and stopped watching, it’s just a retread of Jurassic Park and not even edited as well.
But mostly I’ve been on a major Hong Kong Legends binge: when I discovered they’d re-released a bunch of classics, I gobbled them up, especially anything Sammo Hung related. Warriors Two, The Prodigal Son, The Magnificent Butcher, Iron Fisted Monk, Knockabout, even Zu Warriors! I especially like IP Man 1 and 2, fantastic movies. Also early Jackie Chan, which I’m still getting through, The Young Master, Drunken Master, but also Project A. I’ve always loved Police Story 1 but Police Story 2 is a mess. Trying to get hold of Dragon Lord, another Jackie Chan in the kungfu phase and My Lucky Stars. If you want to see Sammo Hung’s first big movie, he appeared as Hung Kam Po in The Man From Hong Kong, an Australian-Hong Kong co-production which throws everything but the kitchen sink in and has George Lazenby as the big baddie! He also did fight choreography for it.
If you’re new to this sort of movie, I can recommend two recent ones that might do: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is an absolute must. It’s long but amazing. And the comedic match is surely Kung Fu Hustle. Both movies pay homage to several styles of action and storytelling cinema (and Sammo Hung was action director on the latter!)

HK and Chinese movies are my favorite genre @ewe2.
Kung Fu Hustle is awesome, but I’m not so keen on Crouching Tiger. For something I prefer in a similar vein try Hero (the 2002 Jet Li one, not the recent Hindi trainwreck).
Oh, and if you like Hustle then Shaolin Soccer is a must.
I finally caught up with the original cut of John Woo’s Red Cliff and enjoyed it a lot.
[EDIT] oh, Iron Monkey is worth a look as well 🙂
and Chinese Ghost Story
and Once Upon A Time In China
and …

Getting John Woo movies on DVD is tricky, I can’t even get a decent copy of Hard Boiled (major favourite). Same goes for Once Upon A Time In China, I can get #1 but need to find a copy of #2. Love Chinese Ghost Story but also Chinese Odyssey 1 and 2. And yes I’ve seen Shaolin Soccer (hasn’t everyone by now?). I might have seen Hero, I’ll watch it again to be sure.

I’m a huge John Woo fan, even his movies filmed in the West which I find a bit inconsistent.
Broken Arrow is a particular favourite, and I like the action scenes from Mission Impossible 2 which were filmed in these parts.

Went to see Spectre tonight at the cinema.
Wont put in spoilers in case others plan to go however I found it to be overall annoyingly stupidly avarage.
Aside from not doing one thing I thought they would you could see every turn coming five minutes before it happened. If I’d have left my brains at the door I’d still be annoyed at how ridiculous it was.
Will never be in the camp of Skyfall being a masterpiece unless it’s compared to Spectre.

Spectre is not supposed to be Shakespeare ……….Though there was a nod to Proust …….which I’m sure MMM spotted.
I left my brain, (suspending your disbelief is a kinder turn of phrase), at the door and went to see it again yesterday.
Enjoyed it too.
