We had a sub in English today, and the lesson plan was for us to write first drafts for our controversial-topic essays. She didn’t seem to realize that we’d already picked our topics, and was asking volunteers to give examples of controversial topics, which she wrote them in the board. Someone said “homework” and she wrote that, and someone said “mistreatment of pit bulls” and she wrote that beneath it. By that time we’d told her that we’d already chosen our topics, so she stopped writing them, and halfway through the period I glanced up and saw:
Homework
Mistreatment of pit bulls
I should turn her in to the PETA.

For some reason this reminded me of when I was in the grocery store the other day and I saw “vegan organic tofu vegetable dumplings” I read it aloud, realized something, and screamed “ENDORSED BY PAUL AND LINDA MCCARTNEY”
yes i bought them yes they were very good

@AppleScruffJunior we now both have family in Ireland. My nephew is in his sophomore year at St. John’s University. For his entire second semester, he is studying at the school’s campuses in Ireland, France and Italy. I’m not sure of the excat timeline for each country, but he has been in Limerick since 15 January.
So, look to the south and wave to him. His name is Cameron.

As @The Hole Got Fixed kindly reminded elsewhere earlier in the week, it’s William Shears Campbell’s birthday on Monday, the last while he’s away on his Mission.
Should anyone want to send him birthday greetings, please go here and either thank the post, or add a post in that thread if you have anything specific you want to say.
I will be sending him a Fab Forum birthday email late Sunday (UK time) so he has it when he has his weekly day of internet access on Monday.
It’s good the his internet day coincides with his birthday this year.

I just realized we’re on page 999, this is exciting!
Why I came: Some random stranger just walked up to me and said “How tall are you?”
I would try to keep track of how many times this kind of thing happens per month but that would be too depressing.

And then on my way to this thread I got one that said CHOOSE TO FIGHT OR SURRENDER YOUR GUNS: JOIN THE NRA!

Wow, your ads are so much more interesting, I just got an ‘instant grammar checker’ ad… the day i have to get someone else to check my grammar is the day i die.

Oh my gosh yes. I always get Grammarly ads on YouTube and it’s very irritating. GRAMMAR NAZIS UNITE!
Every once in a while I get ads for guitars, which makes me happy. But it is very very rare.

I really don’t understand the point of joining that organization (NRA)…I mean, I like to eat strawberries but never felt the need to pay a fee to belong to some National Strawberry Association.

@Von Bontee Key difference is that it’s pretty damn hard to injure someone with a strawberry, they’re not that complicated, whilst there’s a lot more to guns. I just did a quick Google search, and apparently the NRA does education on proper gun usage/ownership and that sort of thing, as well as organising events, magazines, and whatnot, so I suppose you get something out of your membership fee. Hopefully that answers your question. I was wondering a bit, myself, so maybe we both learnt something today?
Edit: Walrian, maybe you need to start a National Bagel Association to advocate for proper bagel-usage and eatership. They’re dangerously delicious things, bagels.

Though the National Strawberry Association don’t need your money as much because there’s not as much call to ban strawberries and so those who pedal strawberries, and those who love their strawberries, and believe the Government has no place interfering in their Strawberry Rights don’t need to buy as many Congressmen and Senators to head off commonsense Strawberry Laws.
