For Revolver Sgt Pepper and The White Album I took a year off from hearing the songs so that I could listen on the 50th anniversary and the songs would be fresh again. I’ll do the same for the next two, however in the coming month I will hear a whole lot of Let It Be from the january 69 sessions. I want to try to listen to each day’s 50th anniversary.

I don’t think I could go a whole year, the most I go is a few months. I like saving the albums for later, though, it’s been a good long time (a month?!?) since I’ve listened to A Hard Day’s Night and Please Please Me . I’m better at doing this with other bands. mccartney-shrug_01_gif

There was a period where I was a total Beatles maniac. Listening so much it was like being stoned 24/7. But I actually thought it became counterproductive, if you know what I’m saying – if not I’ll try and explain. There are more days than today, and forever is a long time. In order to prolong my enjoyment I backed off a bit. I didn’t want to RISK tiring of them too much. I started by leaving certain albums unlistened to for a while, and focusing on others, or just having a break from music. I believe it actually helped my fandom, because when I started again there was excitement in revisiting old friends. I loved the days of having a brand new Beatles album I had never heard. Those days are over, obviously. The new White Album release had that effect though. My hunger isn’t ever going away, but a little management doesn’t hurt. I can listen to all the albums in my head after all.

Lucky child that I am, I haven’t heard the Live At The BBC albums yet, so I get to discover them for the first time today beatlemaniacs_02_gif

I’ve gone through at least seven or eight periods of extreme Beatles Fandom over a near-40 year period, where I’ll listen to little else for months, then happily devote myself to other sounds for awhile – always secure in the knowledge that Beatle obsessiveness will rear it’s head again when I’m ready. There’s nothing wrong with branching out and exploring, especially for you younguns. Just keep in mind that you always have the Fabs to fall back on when your interest wanes in your other discoveries. And if after a few years you find that Bob Dylan or the Beach Boys or Muse or Beyoncé or Hendrix is your TRUE musical soulmate, be melancholy…but also be happy! For how much enjoyment must that performer ultimately provide you in order to supplant your former favourites? And don’t feel that you’re letting anyone down, least of all the youngsters from Liverpool – there’s no shame in being second best!

And it’s always nice to have an alternate opinion on the “Are the Beatles your favourite band?” thread!

Thank you so much to everyone here, it is a wonderful community and I hope we see many more people join the ranks!heart

Great news! This made me really happy to think of those animals getting a home. My grandfather’s dog, that my family look after for 3 months a year, came from a rescue centre, and she was initially really shy and scared but has since become one of the happiest and friendliest dogs I know.

My dog is a rescue as well, he and his ten siblings were left on the doorstep of the shelter in a barrel. He has some anxiety issues but he’s a sweetheart.

Don’t get me wrong, stores should sell more rescue animals but they shouldn’t be forced to.

I agree. While you can still buy non-rescue animals from private breeders, Its wrong for the government to tell people what kind of dog to buy. Even if it is the “right thing to do”

Pet stores only being allowed to sell rescues = pet stores not being allowed to sell puppies from puppy mills = less business for puppy mills = maybe, hopefully, eventually puppy mills will end.

If people don’t want rescues, they can buy from breeders.

Also there are way too many strays/rescues and not enough room in the shelters so this will help with that as well.

Who would even buy a dog from a pet store? If you want a sickly puppy-farm breed that’s going to cost you a fortune in vet fees then go ahead.

If you want a purebred go to a breeder who can show you mam and dad, and the pedigree of the dog.

Ireland is known as ‘the puppy farm of Europe’, with a lot of the miserable souls being sent to England (or to pet stores) to be sold.

In saying that I don’t think I’ve seen puppies for sale in pet stores since I was a wee lass.

Exactly, doing this is giving the government unnecessary power. It’s like when they decided to ban plastic straws, although not as ridiculous.

How on earth is this giving the government power? Murder is banned by the government as well. Does that give them unnecessary power? mccartney-shrug_01_gif You tell me.

Ah yes those ‘ridiculous’ plastic straws.

Plastic is atrocious, takes hundreds of year to decompose, and is very easily swallowed by wildlife. Any attempt that is made at switching to cardboard, metal, and glass replacements is for the better of the environment.

We’re ridiculously over-reliant on plastic and there is no need to be.

You are absolutely right. Plastic straws (and plastic items in general) suck. It’s not giving unnecessary power to the government, it’s helping the environment.
