My favorite type of cheese to eat is block cheese. Swiss cheese sucks because it tastes like rubber and blue cheese is so disgusting, just thinking about it makes me want to throw up.

You know, I really like cheese.
I have always wanted to love cheese. I can eat some kinds a little…mostly basic American cheese. I have tried to eat a variety. I do like a grilled cheese sandwichs and cheese on hamburgers.

I wonder if @Joe likes any other bands besides The Beatles, I know The Beatles like other bands besides The Beatles, so Joe must. If I had to guess from his age and the picture of him on the about the site page, I’d guess he was into the early 90’s grunge scene.

Since then I’ve always loved The Beatles, although there’s plenty of other stuff I couldn’t live without – David Bowie, Blondie, Pixies, Nirvana, Roxy Music, Patti Smith, Velvets etc.

Yes, I love other bands besides the Beatles. In fact, I rarely listen to the Beatles nowadays, mainly because the songs are so familiar. Normally when I do it’s to educate my kids.
As others have mentioned, I’m a huge Bowie fan, and I also love LCD Soundsystem, Super Furry Animals, St Vincent and many others. I like a lot of different styles, but some of the stuff I’ve bought in the past year has included (in no particular order) Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Kamasi Washington, Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar, Patti Smith, Ezra Furman, Thelonious Monk, John Grant, Arcade Fire, Pixies, Father John Misty, Keaton Henson, Harry Nilsson, William Onyeabor, Meilyr Jones.
I just took a delivery which included albums by The Cure (Three Imaginary Boys ; Entreat Plus), Marvin Gaye (Here, My Dear), Elvis Costello (Taking Liberties), REM (Eponymous) and the Get Right single by Arcade Fire. I’ve got the new Blondie and Sparks albums on order too, as well as the Sgt Pepper deluxe.

It was sort of my era, but really I only liked Nirvana from the grunge scene (I was almost 18 when Kurt died, and still have my old vinyl copies of Nevermind and Bleach). I’m more of a pop person (I mean that in a three-minute-masterpiece way, rather than anything especially up-to-date).
My kids are three and five, so we listen to and watch a lot of Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks. The Moana soundtrack is currently popular in our house, especially You’re Welcome and Shiny.

That was a great post Joe, thanks for letting me know that I’m not the only person on this forum who doesn’t listen to The Beatles as often as he used to because he’s listened to their music so many times. I’m actually surprised that you’re a pop guy, I was assuming for you to say that you were into heavy metal and bands like Metallica and Alice In Chains (as well as other non-metal bands that you didn’t mention like Green Day, Queen, and The Beach Boys ). I was especially surprised to hear that you like Kendrick Lamar, a rap artist, definitely wasn’t expecting that one. Also, it’s interesting to know that you were buying vinyl in 1991, you’d think by then most people had switched to CD’s or cassettes.
If you are wondering why I assumed that you liked heavy metal, it’s a mixture of your picture in the about the site page, where you are wearing a leather jacket in front of a vandalized house, your age, and the fact that there’s 2 main type of Beatles fans that I’ve noticed, fans who like heavy metal as well as The Beatles and fans who like pop as well as The Beatles. There’s also other types, as well as hybrid types, but these are the 2 main types that I’ve noticed.

I’ve never really been a heavy rock fan. The leather jacket on the About page is because I was standing in the Hamburg doorway where the Rock ‘N’ Roll album cover was taken (that “vandalized house”), and I took it with me to mimic John’s. I don’t think I’ve worn that jacket since (not sure I even have it).
I’ve no interest in Green Day or Queen, though I quite like some of the Beach Boys ‘ stuff.
And yes, I was buying vinyl in 1991. I largely stopped the following year when I was given a CD player.

I suppose Abbey Road or A Hard Day’s Night are my favourite albums. I’m not as enamoured with the White Album as others seem to be (obviously I love them all). My least-played are probably BFS, Help ! and Yellow Submarine . I don’t really go in for ranking my top songs/albums though.

I’ll admit that Yellow Submarine was a missed opportunity, it should have been released in July of 1968 as an EP but instead they waited until January 13th, 1969 to release it as a split album, with side A being by The Beatles which contained 5 new songs (counting All You Need Is Love as a new track because it didn’t get a UK album release until this album) and 1 recycled track and side B being by The George Martin Orchestra, with none of the tracks even having The Beatles on it (although you could argue that George plays tamboura on Sea Of Time ).

I think for albums it would be more or less a tie between Revolver and the White Album as my favourites.
As for music styles, I love the acoustic stuff, and I’ve got a soft spot for Paul’s “granny music”.

I must say, in my marathon, I either tolerated or loved all albums until I got to the White Album . I got soooo bored with the White Album , Yellow Submarine was OK, Abbey Road stretched me, and Let it Be was alright. But the White Album was really awful. But, hey, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion!
