Yesterday , when I was at the shop getting a Pink Floyd t-shirt, someone made a daft remark about how old the Floyd are, and they broke up before I was even born. 
I went, ‘And your point is?!‘ 
before informing them, ‘Anyway, they only officially broke up three years ago, although they’d been mostly defunct for about twenty years’. 
Ergh. As a person under the age of forty (and, even worse, twenty), I get this sort of thing a lot when my musical allegiances are revealed to strangers.

Offline I’ve had people get angry at me because of my Abbey Road jacket. They think I’m wearing it just to “look cool” and I don’t know who the band actually is. If only they knew how many hours every day I spend listening to and/or learning about them…
I’ve also gotten people saying things like “if you’re a real fan of this band, name all of their albums!” I thought that was something that only happened in fiction, but apparently not. Those kinds of annoying, elitist fans actually exist. Of course, I can easily name every album by my favourite bands, but I always just leave the situation. People like that aren’t worth my time. I can find plenty of fans who would be happy to talk about bands I like with me rather than assuming I’m lying.

Offline I can understand you so much @moriz it happens to me all the time too. Additionally, when I admitted I actually like Yesterday , Hey Jude and Let It Be I immediately wasn’t a ‘real fan’ anymore because no ‘true fan’ would appreciate the songs everyone knows. Or if you don’t know which guitar each one of them played. It is so sad when every part of life becomes a competition, rather than just enjoying a shared interest.
Luckily there is a bunch of great people on this forum who are always happy to share their Beatles-experience.

Offline I’m more of a Strat guy personally, although I will admit that I like the sound of George’s Les Paul, which is heard throughout The Beatles, Abbey Road , and Let It Be , most notably on the song Something .

I keep an eye on my longtime rival Paul McCartney . I use the word “rival” about the former Beatle, because every time Paul becomes single, my wife gives me notice that if she can somehow pull it off, she’ll be leaving me to marry him. He’s currently married, so I can relax at the moment.
I wonder how many wives have told their husbands that exact same thing.
