We watched the original Ghost Busters last weekend in anticipation of the new one. Zag is optimistic – I am in @meanmistermustard ‘s camp. The trailers I’ve seen look awful. With the sheer volume all of the books and stories ever written or told, why do producers keep remaking old movies? Is there anyone out there currently working on the re-re-re-remake of The Jungle Book? After all, the latest one is already three months old.
Its far easier and cheaper to remake old programmes and films than to pay someone to create new ideas and/or adapt stories for the screen.

One reason… money (I know, so unbelievable).
If people saw the original they’re gonna want to see what the remake is like, to either enjoy criticizing it or triumphing over its “better than the original” status.
It’s also probably a mixture of people not wanting to “waste” their money on seeing a new film with an unfamiliar plot, versus a comfort zone movie.

I used to agree with this sort of statement, but, now being more familiar with film history, I’m less inclined to agree. The thing is, Hollywood was full of unoriginal ideas as far back as the silent era. It’s just that the average person has seen more movies now than back then, so they are more likely to point it out. It’s pretty much always been that way, though.

Gaugin is reputed to have said that all art is either plagiarism or Revolution . We on this forum know how rare it is to experience a real artistic Revolution . Much less a Revolution 9 .

Necko, Beatlebug, Ahhh Girl, WeepingAtlasCedarsI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

I love that quote and it is so true. John and Paul borrowed a lot more than they would admit…although they did admit a lot.

Somebody, changing the name to protect the guilty, maybe Ohhhh Woman , has already Hokey-Pokey-ed, and I’m sorry, it’s just not. You Americans have your funny little ways, but it’s the fecking Hokey Cokey, sometimes the Okey Cokey, but should never be Pokey!

Who calls it the Okey Cokey? Whoever does should be done for treason – its the Hokey Cokey, nothing else.

Apparently, according to Wikipedia, we (the UK) do:
Known as the “hokey cokey” or “okey cokey” (
“hokey pokey” in Ireland)*, the song and accompanying dance peaked in popularity as a music hall ong and novelty dance in the mid-1940s in Britain and Ireland.
[* We’ll have no pokeys here! This is a local song for local people. We’ll have none of your funny foreign ways here!]

So any variation of the theme will result in being done for treason?

Only if you bring your pokeys into it. I have already established that Okie will do the job, but he mustn’t have pokies!
