Here’s a fun video for you all. A man confronting the bootleggers at a Queen concert in Slane Castle in ’86 (fun fact: my dad was at that concert, it was one of Queen’s least favourite shows that they ever did, I believe Brian got hit by a beer can and a fair percentage of the crowd was fighting because they were drunk. There was also a massive surge where a lot of people fell over and got crushed, it was lucky nobody died).

Here is something funny and kind of sad, Glasnevin Cemetary in Dublin unveiled a massive memorial wall today which shows the names of all of the civilians and soldiers from both sides killed in the Easter Rising.

Now here is the embarrasing bit, they spelt it wrong. ‘The Easter Rising’ in Irish is ‘Éirí Amach na Cásca’, they spelt it ‘Eírí Amach na Cásca’) i.e they didn’t put an accent on the ‘E’ in Éirí’ and they added an extra accent to the first ‘i’.

The sad thing is if they had just typed it into Google to make sure it was right, the mistake would never have been made, so now they have to amend it.

I also love Éamon Ó’ Cúiv’s comment (who for people who are interested in Irish history, is Eamon de Valera’s grandson) “That’s wrong…that’s crazy. It should be put right. These things are very simple to put right. There’s any amount of books and dictionaries to tell you how to spell.”

It’s just so wonderfully “damn you all”.

I also love how they saw “fluent Irish speakers” spotted it- ah no, anyone who knows a decent amount of Irish or who is interested in Irish history knows that you spell it ‘éirí’

Seriously lads though, isn’t that bloody difficult to spell four words right!
