I’m usually in that nice little state between sleeping and waking then. Are you saying I should get up earlier?
Cause I probably should…

So in the beginning of the school year my teacher told me that his favorite Beatle was Richard, so this whole time I thought he was just super cool. Recently, however, I found out that Ringo is not his favorite Beatle because he likes Ringo – he’s his favorite Beatle by PROCESS OF ELIMINATION. He doesn’t agree with the political views of John, Paul, or George so that’s why Ringo is his favorite. I thought Richard was his favorite because he appreciates his beauty, so finding out that’s not the case was kind of disappointing.
But what even are John, Paul, and George’s political views anyways? Aren’t they just peace and love? And do they really differ from Ringo’s or is Ringo just not as vocal?

More or less, yeah. Paul goes on about vegetarianism, George was always on about spirituality, and John… well, he changed opinions every five minutes. Of course, that’s not just politics.
And do they really differ from Ringo’s or is Ringo just not as vocal?
Ringo is quite vocal, I think…

The only Beatle related conversation (if you can even call it that) I ever had in any class (school & college) was when one of my lecturers said “Beatles were these guys who were hungover all the time”. Unfortunately, I didn’t know anything about them then, otherwise I would have made her weep.
Or gently weep, in Beatle speak.

Correction: The Beatles were these guys that walked around casually being headfeetandshoulders above everyone else genius. Without even trying.

Surely it would have made more sense to say high than hungover considering they are more associated with drugs; i’ve never heard them be said to be alcoholics – well not until Ringo hit the booze in the 70’s, actually they all hit the drink hard one time or another.

Right, but Ringo is vegetarian too (albeit not for the same reasons) and he’s also vocally anti-war like the other three were/are. Their views to me seem to be essentially the same: peace and love, so I don’t get where my teacher’s coming from or how he can even disagree with those values, but to each their own, I guess.

When people make silly, dismissive statements like that, it tells you more about them than it tells you about The Beatles.
Any statement anybody says says more about the person than it says about what they’re talking about. The only thing that exists is the self. Even if somebody is saying something seemingly obvious like “the apple is red,” what they are really saying is “to me, the apple appears to be red.” It says nothing about the apple. Maybe somebody else will think it’s orange.

@Little Piggy Dragonguy why do you frequently call Ringo Richard? Just curious. I don’t know anyone who calls him Richard… ’tis always Ringo, Ritchie, or Dad.

I really like the name Richard Starkey. I think it’s super cool. I made a bust of him in ceramics class last year, and I named the bust Richard, and really I’ve called him Ringo very little after that unless I’m talking to somebody who wouldn’t know his name was Richard. I just got so used to the name Richard because I talked to/about the bust a lot. Another reason I call him Richard is probably because nobody else seems to (which is a pretty lame reason, but at least I know it’s lame).

I’m sure you can apply it everywhere. Besides, I was merely trying to emphasise the same thing.

I read that book, but I don’t remember that he only refers to Ringo by his birth name. I do vaguely recall having heard that Richard requested to be called by his proper name, though if he really didn’t like being called Ringo I think he could have tried a little harder to stop being called that (like changing his tour shirts and not naming his 2012 album Ringo). Maybe he just asked that from the people close to him, though, because he has to know that John, Paul, George and Ringo will never change.
