Definitely didn’t look nor feel like the first day of spring yesterday. It was cold and it was raining. Today it was really nice, it was sunny, but that was very deceiving as it was still very cold.My mom will turn 50 the first of april, anyone got any suggestions on what to do?
I know what you mean. Friday was the first partial day of Spring for us (@ 6:45PM) and we got 5 inches of snow. Today, thanks to a beautiful warm sunny weekend, the snow is once again all gone.
As for your mom’s 50th – if she like parties, surround her with her closest friends. If something more intimate is to her liking, take her out to her favorite restaurant. Either way, making sure she knows what an impact she’s made on the lives of others to this point should be the theme of any gathering. Hope that helps.
Yeah it will be freezing at night here again. Horrible!
Well, she wanted to have a party with her friends, but that can’t happen because of various reasons. I was planning to take her out to a restaurant indeed, but as my grandma is usually with us all day during birthdays, and we also have dinner together, she was planning on going to her place and have chinese with us all. But now it turns out my grandma can’t bear chinese food anymore, so nothing’s set in stone. Taking her out to a restaurant was also supposed to be a secret, but there you go :\
I wanted to organize a quest through the house and lay down notes with clues in several spots, and that she would finally find a note that would say where we were going, and that we could give our present in the restaurant, so that she’d first think that she’d only get the dinner.
We could still go there, and she was into it, but wasn’t sure what will happen yet, so I just told her to think about it and to tell me early enough to be able to make reservations if she wanted to go.
In the meanwhile we have come up with a present. I’m going to get her some flowers from this fantastic florist downtown. They make wonderful things. As for the big present we’re buying her a massive silver bracelet and we’ll have it engraved with a message that makes clear she got it for her 50th and that makes clear we love her. We wanted to do something personal, and it was pretty hard to come up with something and jewellery is expensive, even if you’re buying it together with two others (and my sister was a pain in the arse as she didn’t like any of our ideas but didn’t want to come up with anything herself either). We wanted to give her something nice, as my dad won’t buy her anything. Tomorrow I’m going to the jeweller with my brother to take a look at it. I hope it will be nice.

Perfect! She’s a lucky mom.

That song is where it came from. Harry Chapin is awesome. W.O.L.D is my favorite song of his.

@trcanberra, some turn around from Man U in the last couple of weeks, well since the Arsenal game. Wins and performances against Spurs and Liverpool, two of your closest rivals for that 4th Champions League spot. What do you think has caused it as you resemble a decent side currently? Long way to go tho with games against Man City, Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal in the last 8 matches.

I think LVG has come to his senses and started playing our better players in their preferred positions. He seems more stubborn than Fergie at times. Mata and Herrera are really good players and should have been picked more often.
He has also managed to improve the defense, though I still think we should have bought one more defender last summer. I saw ESPN even picked Smalling in ther team of the week!!
I’m just nervous about RvP getting fit again, he is in really poor form yet seems to get selected all the time. I would have Rooney or Wilson starting and Hernandez back from his loan as an impact player off the bench.

How long till RVP is back? Do you think you’ll get that fourth spot what with the 5 point gap over Liverpool (6 with goal difference)
Still some expensive rebuilding work to do on the squad. I think its safe to say Falcao wont be hanging around for pre-season, RVP should be on his way (both for obvious reasons) and i doubt Hernandez will return to replace either of them considering LVG didnt rate him to keep him so thats two strikers required. Plus there is still a blatant need for a driving midfielder, 2 central defenders and a right back. Expensive.

RvP could be back in the next week or so apparently (unfortunately).
I think one central defender will do, the youngsters coming through look really good, we just need a bit more experience while they develop further. Janko looks promising as right back cover so we may be okay there. I think it’s the midfield player who will cost the money.
I agree on Hernandez – it’s a shame. I’d really like to see them give Angelo Henriquez a run alongside Wilson; he has had two loan spells and scored bags of goals on both.
I’m actually pretty upbeat about the squad with a couple of additions. The two Mata goals were great, from the build-up through the execution.

This is one of those internet topics that often sets forums aflame (no pun intended).
And some folks then sit back, make popcorn, and watch the debate.
I’ll have mine with salt and butter thanks.
On a more serious note, it’s unfortunately one we can’t win – but both my father and grandfather died from lung cancer and were prolific smokers. I really hope I didn’t catch too much passive smoke from the clouds of the noxious stuff which used to float around the house when I was young.

Do those pictures of damaged lungs work on smokers to get them to quit or do they just light up and blow smoke up it?
If bacon came with fat blocked arteries on the packet i’d take great pleasure in stabbing the plastic when i opened it.

While I wouldn’t recommend anyone take up smoking (in fact, I’d discourage it), I’m well aware of the health risks, and am old enough and ugly enough to make my own decisions. Every pouch of tobacco has some gruesome picture and warning on it, so one more picture is nothing. Sorry, HKL!

If you wanna stop people from smoking, you could always design a virus to kill off all the tobacco. If you wanna smoke then smoke just look at all the health risks. Are their any developments to prevent second and third hand smoking?

While I agree that everyone is free to kill themselves by their method of choice, it’s just the passive smoking that is still an issue for me.
