Should I change mine to “Cailin Amaideach”?
(Yes, Google Translate is helpful. If @AppleScruffJunior isn’t around, that is.)

Well, as @AppleScruffJunior would tell you, @Beatlebug, coming from Irish/English stock myself, I’m not too shabby on my Irish Gaelic, so I know it’s Silly Girl. Slightly wrong spelling though. It’s Cailín Amaideach.

Don’t let my Irish teacher hear that, if you forget an accent/fada in Irish it make your entire sentence nonsensical.
Tá ár madra ar an ngeata- Our dog is on the gate
Tá ar madra ar an ngeata- On is the dog is on the gate- just because you left an accent out it makes no sense.
It elongates the vowel sound, bloody interesting isn’t it?
Lá Fhéile Phádraig Sona dhaoibh go léir!
Sláinte is táinte!
I was playing around on the Irish Google Translate, whoever did the translations did an awful job- nearly everything I typed in was incorrectly translated

Fascinating stuff. But I’m afraid you have it wrong. My first name is….
….private…. but you can’t see me, you can’t see MEEEE… but it’s…
“Cailin” is Irish for Girl. As in, a silly one. It’s Saint Patrick’s Day.
I live in North Carolina; my mother is Asian, and my dad is from Georgia of Irish/Scottish heritage. I’m pretty mixed up, so it’s no surprise that I haven’t an accent at all really, just plain (A.K.A boring) American. Oh, and I’m an Anglophile, which is why I spell things like “colour” and “realise” that way.
Edit: The person above me is the Katie around here.

Hahaha.
To my ears I have an extremely mild Welsh accent, if at all, but every English person I meet picks up on it instantly. We all have them, we just don’t realise it.

I know, I was just staving off any potential accusations of “Do you have a Southern drawl???” because I don’t, except occasionally as a sorta-joke, or if I’m around my extended relatives who do have accents… but plain American is reeeally boring. Anyway, I can’t complain. But @AppleScruffJunior , what does a leprechaun on helium sound like?
(Nice username, by the way. Hey, we can tell posters who haven’t been around today how much they’ve missed– two users will have changed their usernames twice while they were away!)

Arra sure t’would be no bother at all at all Zig!
I was looking at old Irish poems (think Shakespearean English but Irish style) when I decided on my name seeing as a lot of them are anonymous hence ‘File Anaithnid’- ye will never get to read my poetry.

It’s odd seeing notices that FileAnaithnid mentioned me in one post and Cailín Amaideach in another. I kept thinking, “who the hell is THAT?”. Imagine if it was a holiday commemorating someone who spoke Khoisan. We’d see things like…
ClickClickClackCluck mentioned you in the post The “Incredibly Impossible to Derail This Thread” thread (Remove Notice)
