I was looking at vonbontee's (Not Von Bontee's) signature, and I had a random idea to make a “mash-up” of Beatles songs by hooking one word in a song to another, completely unrelated song. (Example: “Sleeps in a hole /s in Blackburn, Lancashire, and though the hole- / where the rain / comes, they run and hide their / is a place (OK, I used their/they're/there confusion. Shoot me.), etc.)

I have received the best gift I would ever get for my birthday and Mothers' Day (celebrated here on 21 March) – a GUITAR!!!
Yay!
Good luck learning how to play!

Did I mention that I may try to do a little guitar work? My brother has an acoustic, which seems like a start. Although I’d only use it to help write songs. Did I mention that? I think I’ve forgetting a lot of things.

Fun fun fun!
Well, if your brother already knows how to play, you can ask him to teach you. If he can't or won't teach you, there are a lot of tutorial videos on YouTube.
A songwriting tip: Unless you have come up with the Best Melody Ever, don't try and write the melody first. It's a lot easier to fit a melody to good lyrics than to try to fit lyrics into a melody and end up with something that's awkward to sing. Also, don't expect every song you write to be great. I've written three songs: “Please Go Away,” which is a joke song; “So Sexy,” which is about body image; and “Cheesily in Love,” which is pretty lame. Don't compare your songs to Beatles songs, or you will end up ripping up your paper, snapping your pencil in two, and storming out of the room.
Oh yeah: like anything else, remember to have fun! 😀

He sorta flirted with the guitar a few years back, so he isn’t the expert. Although I know some guitarists at school, so maybe. Thanks for the tip. Although, if it wasn’t for the fact we live 2000 miles away, I’d propose a working partnership.

Well, kinda. MMM has written some stuff, and I have written both parodies of Beatles songs and a couple of other numbers, including a still being completed number. Maybe I’ll post it when I’m done.

It’s strange. I can whip off a song in less than 10 minutes (at least the lyrics) and like the lyrics. It comes easy to me. It’s my emotional sanctuary because some of the things that I feel are best exposed by music. It can be easy. It’s desire that is my only deterrent.

Today was really fun, and really exciting for me! Let me tell you why… Today my school band went to a competition called UIL, which is a very big deal for performing arts around here. We had practiced our pieces so much, and worked so hard to get things right, which got us the highest ratings in both the concert and sight-reading performances. It is also my first year to doing these big contests, so it was a really cool experience. The judges were also pretty strict, so getting straight ones was a huge surprise. I am glad and a little sad that it is over, because it made us work together really well and hot me some new friends, but I know we will still be that way next year. Oops, I am rambling on again, let me just say I am proud of how we all worked together. Sorry if it sounds like I am bragging!

Wow mith, thankfully everyone was alright though. Stay safe down there.
But I disagree with you MMM, I find it easier to get the melody first and then fill it in on a syllable basis, but you know, cleverly. But sometimes the words come with the melody, but I always find when I try to force the lyrics I end up unhappy with the final result.
Here’s my “creative” tip, right when you wake up, instead of hitting the snooze button and dozing off for a few minutes, just lay there and let your mind go crazy in it’s half awake yet half still in dreamland state. I’ve come up with some odd ideas, like this one song came into my head that had a tap dancer providing percussion rather than drums or whatever. So I don’t know, maybe I’m on pace to write a musical.
And Mr Sun King , definitely get on that guitar because you’re writing will just expand as you get better and hear different things. I used to try and write these serious John Lennon type songs where I threw my emotions on the table, but now I go for the James Brown style of just yelling random things over funky riffs and I absolutely have a blast.

“Gang Fight” is better, though.
1. OH MY GOSH ARE YOU POLYTHENE DAN IN DISGUISE?
Nope, I'm not Polythene Dan, and neither is Von Bontee! Who does Dan like that's comparable?
Congratulations on the guitar! Get those calluses built up…
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Interesting, I actually just started learning clarinet yesterday, kind of excited. I'm mainly a percussionist at the moment. lol no I haven't really heard of those pieces, but I do know and have played a few pieces by Hazo. I hope you did well in the competition.
Also hope you feel better Mith
