I tried creating a new topic but couldn’t in this section. Topic: Old songs that even whippersnappers today (Gen Z and forward) would immediately think are cool — without having heard them before.

Today’s entry:  The Joker, by Steve Miller Band (1973).

Imagine inviting a whippersnapper to sit down, use whatever medium they like for listening to songs, tell them to relax, chill, get a snack or whatever they like, clear their mind… okay ready….? Ok, here goes…  If that whippersnapper has an open mind and isn’t bringing his prejudices with him or her (“ewww, 1973?”), I am convinced they would like it.

Being one of the Beatlemaniac zoomers who grew up on Beatles music, I can’t really speak for whippersnappers since as far as I’m concerned, 1973 was one of the best ever years for music (Dark Side of the Moon, Aladdin Sane, Band On The Run , LITMW, Houses of the Holy…)

I’m pretty sure I’ve heard “The Joker” before on classic rock radio. I wouldn’t call it cool, but more warm and mellow. I could hear this emanating out of the open doors of a restaurant at the beach, just audible under the sounds of people talking and laughing and eating on the patio or porch outside.

@Sea Belt

Ron Nasty summed it up here: https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..s/#p378331

The forum reached a stage where, despite it being a forum to discuss The Beatles, the vast majority of discussion was about anything but The Beatles, @Neely. Often the forum could go weeks without there being any real discussion of them, and Joe felt it discouraged those who wanted to talk about them to look at a list of the most recent posts here and seeing The Beatles were not being talked about. He had created a forum for Beatles discussion and found it had morphed into a more generic social forum that can be found all over the interweb.

Efforts were made to refocus the forum onto its intended primary subject, such as making all forum games Beatles focused, but eventually felt he had no choice but to lock the All Together Now section of the forum to new threads, while also locking many threads in it, if it was to be a Beatles forum. There are still many threads there which allow for varied discussion, from the In My Life thread which allows people to talk about what’s going on with them, to the Incredibly Impossible to Derail thread where anything can be discussed, to threads for current affairs (I Read the News Today) and music (What Are You Listening to…).

{snip}

I could go back and find where we discussed these changes originally if you want me too. It was a bit of testy time, but it all worked out in the end.

I Finally made a beatle fan friend! I found out one of my classmates really likes the Beatles. We’ve been talking about the Beatles for a few days now and he’s my level of beatles fan (Aka way too deep). We also share a bunch of the same musical tatse of classic rock from the 60s and 70s. It’s really fun to have someone how matches your freak y’know. They’ve also forced my other classmates to listen to the beatles. Hooray!

The forum is hard to keep up with when you don’t check it regularly, and then feels pretty slow when youre posting a lot. Still its fun to get on and just unload about the Beatles. I hung out with an old friend for the first time in a long time last month, and while we were catching up we got into some great Beatles discussion, and I realized how much I enjoy praising the music and connecting the dots between the songs and the history. I have a good friend now who loves the Beatles, and we rarely ever talk about them. I gotta change that starting now.

Wow, I’m glad I browsed that locked thread about the “ahhhs” in A Day In The Life — near the end I saw Joe linking Paul himself weighing in — on a Reddit thread of all places!  It doesn’t entirely solve the mystery, but at least we know Paul was one (or more) of the ahhhs — we just don’t know (yet) which did which.

it definitely sounds like The Beatle – the multi-headed beast that sings “Because “.

All jokes aside I love the alchemical magic that happened when John, Paul and George all blended their voices. They really did seem to create this fourth entity (and no I don’t mean Ringo). a-hard-days-night-paul-7

My theory is that John was the ultimate creator of the Ahhhs, but he didn’t have a complete sense of what he wanted, so he tried to convey to the other Beatles what it was, and Paul and George joined in to augment his ahhhs and together they all refined John’s initial incomplete vision until it was perfect.  However, to me, the perfection requires the engineering vis-a-vis the other instruments for its full effect on the listener.  So no doubt the engineering of it after the recording was a crucial component (and they may have continued tweaking until they got it just right).

Billy Rhythm (I miss him) wrote this in 2014, and I’ve not forgotten it. https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..s/#p130970

Their harmonies were simply angelic, unmatched by any others, {snip}, The Beatles established a benchmark of sorts to which all other singers can only strive for but never truly achieve.  Sure, there’s been many more who are, in fact, technically more accomplished than any of them ever were, but ANY combination of them displaying their pension for creating another voice beyond their own could NEVER be duplicated, the closest representation of “the voice of GOD” that humans will ever know.

(I bolded the last bit.)

I think the Yoko art is starting to getting to me, earlier I cut and apple then I put the slices back together for some reason. It felt like a Modern-Contemporary-Experimental-Preformance-or-Something art peice of Yoko’s. I’m going mad. It’s definitely from the Yoko insanity my friends and I did a few months ago.
