Wish I was there. And they remodelled Space Mountain to be Across The Universe . The song playing as you zip around the darkness.

This post @Ahhh Girl has promised not to peek at as it involves half of her birthday gift. Wasn’t intending to mention it until after her big day when she gets to be the same age as me for a few days, but it has a reduced price at the minute, making it extra good value for a very nice Beatley product, I just ask that no one mention any product details that I’m putting in the spoiler, and trust AG to be a good AG who doesn’t peek, and not a naughty AG…
Very nice package of replica Beatles items…
4×12 page booklets, 1 on each Beatle
5 concert tickets
8 bubblegum cards
1964 Cavern Club membership card
8th March Royal Hall Harrogate programme
30th June 1963 Great Yarmouth programme
8th July 1963 Winter Gardens Margate programme
3rd November 1963 Leeds Odeon handbill
16th August 1964 Blackpool Opera House programme
Beatles at the Cavern with Pete card
A fan club ticket to Wimbledon Palais Ballroom on 14th December 1963
A welcome letter to the Official Fan Club
Front and back page of the Sunday Citizen newspaper on 23rd February welcoming them back from America
Very nice package of repro Beatles items, with great quality printing on appropriate card and paper
Was gonna be raving about after AG’s birthday as, at £7.99, I think damn good value for money.
Only mentioning it early because, and ain’t that just the luck, it’s now £6.49…
Please don’t spoil AG’s birthday by talking about this outside here, this is just me saying very nice, and good price should you be interested…

I often check the Cracking The Cryptic and Bremster YouTube channels, and occasionally do the puzzles. I enjoy some of the sudoku variants.

It rained Thursday night, as evidenced by the puddles Friday morning, but we were so Disney tired that we slept right through it.
We only got a few sprinkles on us Thursday at Magic Kingdom. Not enough to even get out an umbrella or rain jacket. The clouds were nice for keeping the burning sun at bay.

Do I remember rightly that Mona Best had the nickname Queenie? I can’t remember where I read it, and googling it isn’t bring me any joy (well except for the hilarious copywriting documented here).

Are you thinking of Malka Epstein, Brian’s mother, who was known as Queenie?

I had half a notion to try “13 differing keyboard sounds on Beatles records” on a recent one, but wasn’t sure there’d be enough, even including Vox/Hammond/Lowrey organs and such oddities as “piano with newspaper threading the strings”

@vonbontee I was wondering if Proctor ever messaged you with his CCR question? An early incarnation of the band (then called the Golliwogs) played at a school dance. I mostly remember them because it was the first band I ever heard jam. I think it was on an early version of You Put A Spell On Me. They probably improvised for 60 seconds but it made quite an impression. They hadn’t picked up on the bayou sound yet and sounded more like Them or the Animals. If I ever dig my yearbook out of storage, I think they published some pictures from the dance. If I recall their look was much more conservative way back then.

Wow!Amazing!
I was frequently streaming “Fight Fire 1964-67”, the complete Golliwogs singles, and was impressed with the diversity – they sound like Them one minute, then Brian Wilson/Beach Boys , then rockabilly, then early psychedelia. (One track clearly borrows from “Please Please Me “; Fogerty apparently heard the Beatles the few times they were played on American radio in 1963 and was really impressed, even as he misheard the Bay Area DJ identify them as “The Shields”; before catching them for real on Ed Sullivan) Very cool album, which ends with the Golliwogs final single “Porterville”, which was rereleased under the CCR name as 1967 turned to 68, and is the same one that appeared on their debut. I finished Fogerty’s bio, and yeah they looked more clean-cut earlier, as the book’s photos show.

Lol, when I wrote the post I was afraid that the Golliwogs were too obscure to mention. Very impressed, I’m going to check out your suggestions because I don’t think I’ve heard any of their songs since the sixties (except for Porterville of course). Living in the bay area I saw CCR several times in festival settings. The coolest one was at an outdoor amphitheater at Stanford U in 1968. My parents were involved with an early self-help group that was organized by some profs. They dropped me off early in the morning on there way to an all day meeting, so I was very close to the stage. I can’t remember everyone else that played, but for sure Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Chambers Brothers. I got my jamming wishes fulfilled that day!!
