I think Rubber Soul is fine, but I haven’t paid any attention. It’s all just noise to me, and that, because Im a collector, means “Ka-Ching!”
It’s Revolver That bothers me. I would name it psychedelic, but it just doesn’t have any psychedelic color to be able to call it. It has the songs (Tomorrow Never Knows , Taxman , etc.) but no color.
the psychedelic albums, as I always put it, are
–Revolver Is Not A Psychedelic Album! It does NOT have any color!

Just like its cover, Revolver is a sort of rougher, less colorful type of psychedelia. It is more straightforward. Bue come on. She Said She Said , Love You To , Doctor Robert , are pretty psychedelic as well. I think MMT is the most out-there, but Revolver , for 1966, was probably some of the craziest sounding s**t there was.

I think Revolver was basically the Beatles’ ticket to ride psychedelia– Jules already noted on SSSS, LYT, and Dr.R being psychedelic (which, I also consider them to be, of course), and Tomorrow Never Knows is certainly a psychedelic piece. I would even argue that Pauls songs on the album are psychedelic/have psychedelic influences– “Here, There And Everywhere ” sort of has this just completely relaxed and chill vibe that can also be interpreted as psychedelic in nature, and “Got To Get You Into My Life ,” while not outrightly psychedelic, brings that “colour” that Kaos was looking for, and sort of alludes to the energy and vibe we would get in Sgt. Pepper , I think. Looking at each song on the tracklist rn, I could probably make an argument for each one of them that supports the idea of Revolver being a psychedelic album. And I do believe that it gives the “colour” of psychedelia throughout, despite the album’s artwork.
I also count Yellow Submarine as a bit psychedelic because it literally just is…..

During a UC Berkeley virtual tour and webinar thingy that I “attended” today, one of the “tour guides” was talking about the school’s sports traditions and such and when it came to the topic of their mascot, Oski the bear, the tour guide described him as “wonderful, unique, omnipresent, legendary”, which was really weird especially since he said it with a completely straight face and tone, and now I think that UC Berkeley is just a cult that worships Oski the Golden Bear like he’s a god-like figureThe question remains though: do I want to join this cult or not???
Also to better add to the current discussion: I concur that Revolver is the best album ever.
Why the name Oski? Did they happen to explain? I’m filled with curiousity

Nope. But I looked it up independently– apparently he got his name from the Oski Yell (Cal’s spirit yell).
Also, all the schools songs he’s mentioned in makes him seem creepy af
From “Fight for California”– “Our sturdy Golden Bear Is watching from the skies; Looks down upon our colors fair, And guards us from his lair”
From “Big ‘C'”– Golden Bear is ever watching; Day by day he prowls
He’s also just so creepy in general *shudders*
And when you look him up on Google, under the “People Also Searched For” section, it lists the devil???
Something ‘s up here I swear

There’s also a Stanford song that speaks of Oski quite rudely.
Putting it under a spoiler as there is some vulgar language.
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT BERKELEY
1. The Dirty Golden Bear (to the tune of “The Sturdy Golden Bear”)
(verse 1)
The Dirty Golden Bear Is losing all his hair
His teeth are out
He’s got the gout
He knows not what it’s all about
His eyes are made of glass
He’s losing all his class
So TAKE the Dirty Golden Bear and shove him up your ***!
(verse 2)
The Dirty Golden Bear Has dirty pubic hair
His dick is dead
It’s got no head
He cannot get it up in bed
He tries to use his hand
But cannot find his gland
So YOU can find him jerking off the UC Berkeley Band!
TL;DR: Sounds as if Oski is suffering premature hair loss, dental difficulties, gout, blindness, general uncleanliness, and erectile dysfunction all in one! A travesty. Poor Oski.
(Not quite as bad as the song they have for Cal Poly though…)
Edit: also wait they used to use LIVE BEARS as mascots??? oh my GOODNESS

Well not to derail anything but I love What Goes On its got a groovy beat and I can bug out to it. Maybe it could have lived on one of the previous two albums but cmon that would have been predictable yawn boring. Also I bought two trekking poles to walk with, they’re great and very pole-y.

What Goes On was one of my first loves of Beatles songs. The harmonies of Rubber Soul are so special, and What Goes On will always have a special place in my heart for opening up the album for me.

As for Radio Ga Ga, it’s a generic 80’s pop anthem, bad but not any worse than the others like Don’t Stop Believing, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and We Built This City.
It’s definitely worse than “Girls” and “…Believin'”, but far better than that godawful Starship song.

what if you derail it by derailing it by derailing the derail that you rerail but derail the rerail that you derailed but ended up rerailing before derailing it again so you would have to rerail it so no one derails your rerail before you can rereail it and derail it again by rerailing the derail and essentially rerailing and derailing almost immediately after or before rerailing the derail that you rerailed before someone derailed your rerail so you would have to derail to rerail again after you deraailed the rerail before derailing someone else’s rerail that you wanted to derail to make room to rerail.

To be fair, Don’t Stop Believin’ isn’t that bad, it’s just a mediocre rock ballad that became one of the most overrated and overplayed songs of all time. It’d be like if You Like Me Too Much was heralded as one of the greatest songs of all time and was frequently played on every classic rock radio station on the face of the earth.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, on the other hand, is just generic pop drivel.

’Radio Ga-Ga’ is alright but one of the least interesting classic Queen songs. They have a lot. In truth I’m becoming bored by Queen due to the media’s obsession with them, Brian May and Roger Taylor being an absolute tossers, and the same songs always being played. It seems the music stations have an extended EP of about 7 songs they always choose from.
’GJWHF’ is an ok 80’s song. I never seek it out or want to hear it but it’s ok if it comes on.
’Don’t Stop Believing’ was always terrible but for some reason was forced down our throats as some sort of classic for months. I now hate it and dread it ever being played.
I don’t even remember ’We Built This City’ aside from the occasional sound bite, maybe that’s the intro and I immediately turn it over. I think some awful charity song parodied it a couple of years ago but could be wrong.
