I saw that earlier, my love of EU protected designation of origin products and being part-time a snobby French person (I have a packet of Gauloises specifically for the purpose of me being a snobby know-it-all Frenchwoman), made me admire that post a lot.
Edit: That was of course in reply to AG’s post.

^That always confused me too, until I learned the legend/myth associated with the constellation Aquarius. Aquarius is the water-bearer or cupbearer, meaning his job was to keep the gods soused. You can think of it like a cloud that brings rain even though it’s in the air.

Do we think there will be a sharp increase in babies being born from about December to April next year?

Beatlebug, vonbontee, lovelyritametermaid, WeepingAtlasCedarsI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I decided to change my signature to this quote. I feel that my old one doesn’t really suit me now and, to be honest, I don’t really know that it ever truly did.
Although, swr never did answer when I asked if I could use it. Well, now’s his chance, I guess. @sir walter raleigh, speak now or forever hold your peace.

In California they are experimenting with building tunnels under highways in open areas to allow wild animals safe passage. They have motion activated cameras placed at the entrances to hopefully prove this solution is working. Not too long ago they caught what appears to be a coyote and a badger travelling together.

I’m replying to this here because I feel some specific points need to be addressed, but I don’t want to derail the other thread altogether.
@Ron Nasty said in the Coronavirus thread
ASJ expresses cynicism about Leo Varadkar, no complaint, no call to keep political opinion out of the thread and little follow-up or comment from others.
mmm comments on Trump and it’s “Let’s not comment on the leadership of politicians here.”
A huge chunk of this is about political leadership, and if our political leadership cannot be discussed here, it defeats my original suggestion for this thread.
You know as well as I that Trump is a far more divisive figure than the prime minister no one outside of Ireland has heard much of.
Anyway, the politicization of this thread is something that was nagging at the back of my mind for a while. I know that it’s inevitably going to be in the picture, but I’m concerned about the thread going the way of any thread where politics are mentioned – they tend to be taken over by those discussions, which is why we created the Philosophy thread in the first place, to avoid totally derailing other threads with such discussions.
For all you know, mmm’s comment may have passed by with no further comment. I’d seen it here and felt there was nothing to add. All of my comments on it have been in response to your suggestion that comment on political leadership should be barred from this thread.
I doubt we’d still be discussing were it not for your suggestion that political leaders should not be something to grumble about here.
You’re right about mmm’s post, but as far as I can tell, you’ve made far talk about the subject than I have. Nowhere did I actually say you shouldn’t talk about politics in the thread, I merely suggested we try to keep it at a minimum so as to avoid politics overtaking the discussion, as often happens.
actual quote by me
You’re free to critique world leaders for their responses, but I would like to avoid bogging this thread down with too much of that type of discussion.
We can do this by simply encouraging talk about other things, letting the conversation move on naturally, as it did with ASJ’s post and as @50yearslate has done with her post about the AP tests and SATs.

That reminds me of something similar that they have in Banff National Park, called wildlife overpasses. They’re kinda neat:

Wow, that is really being environmentally responsible (and looks beautiful too). I had the great good fortune to explore British Columbia a few summers back. We visited the Whistler area and couldn’t believe how many bears were wandering around the old Olympic Village and the lake. They seemed completely oblivious to our presence which was really cool to see. I believe things like the wildlife overpass/underpass help keep dangerous interactions at a minimum.

I’ve seen those when I went to Canada about two or so years ago. Really good idea.
By the way I’m working from home now. Kinda weird actually because you need to be more disciplined but I’ll take it.
