The musical is over, it’s so sad. Our AD was in tears after the show because she’s a senior and it’s her last musical, but we still have one more show in the spring so I’m looking forward to that. Cast party was fun though everyone brought sugar and we played Quiplash and it was fun

My band is having a benefit concert this summer and we’re looking for songs that fit the general theme of summertime. Do y’all have any suggestions? (preferably family-friendly, suitable to be arranged for a three-piece rock trio + harmonica/tambourine player, and at least reasonably well-known)

Here Comes The Sun would be the obvious choice if you need a Beatles song?

Oh, I guess I should have noted that we already have HCTS on the list. I also suggested Good Day Sunshine and Rain , though I don’t know how much traction those suggestions are gaining.

Gershwin’s Summertime is an obvious suggestion, done by everyone from Billie Holiday to Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin to Paul, and how about The Undertones Here Comes the Summer… erm, Summer in the City by the Lovin’ Spoonful, Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & the Waves, In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry… Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran… Sunny Afternoon by the Kinks…

The Beach Boys immediately come to mind (at least in part because I was just over perusing that thread). Literally 90% of their catalogue could qualify, by my reckoning.

Summer Night City by Abba would be another, as would anything by (and I never thought I would recommend this but here it is nonetheless) 5 Seconds of Summer…

The ones that I would recommend Sunshine Superman by Donovan, Sunflower by Vampire Weekend is a really good one, Island in the Sun by Weezer, Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks.
Other songs that fit the general vibe of easy-going summertime: Take It Easy or Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles, Sugar Magnolia or Box of Rain or Scarlet Begoniasby The Grateful Dead.

We have three plays a year. The comedy will be starting soon.
You’re lucky @50yearslate, our high school only allowed for a fall drama and a spring comedy or musical. We also put on a fundraiser around Christmas that took many shapes; improvisational comedy, dramatizing popular songs, a faux talent show. My favorite was the year we formed a drama club band and put on a dance party. We raised enough cash that year to buy a huge cyclorama for our stage.

My school only has a fall play and school musical with fundraising events in between, also. We do Christmas Coffeehouse, a karaoke night, and a “talent” showcase (people can sign up to sing, have their band perform, play an instrument, do comedy, do improv, read poetry, etc). We also do smaller fundraising events at Panera or Chipotle throughout the year, but we still never have enough money….

The drama classes do a fundraiser, I think, but I don’t know of any others. It does cost money to see the plays so that probably helps.

Another Sunny Day by Belle & Sebastian would be my pick, it’s very catchy and it has some pretty nifty guitar playing.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

You should come out here to Oregon, @Ahhh Girl – the entire state is cannabis-obsessed. There are literally five or more dispensary ads in my tiny local airport. It’s hilarious, and every stereotype that exists about our state is deserved.
