Amazon said they would deliver something I’d ordered by 9pm tonight. Since it’s not here do I get it free along with my choice from their side-order menu?
Talk very nicely to their customer agent on their live customer chat and they’ll give you something back. I got the entire boxset of Futurama for free because the box was slightly damaged. Discs were all fine though.
They might even throw in a bag of onion rings.

Okay, so after looking for a place to tell this story, I’ve decided there is no good place for it–which means that this is the best place for it.
Anyhow, I brought up in the “What are you listening to right now?” thread that I have been in physical proximity to John Mulaney, and *certain people* (I’m looking at you, @lovelyritametermaid) said they wanted to hear the story. So here it is:
I was in Chicago visiting a friend the winter before last. One day she and I went to the Chicago Art Institute, and while I was near the beginning of the museum looking at ancient Egyptian sculptures, I noticed this guy out of the corner of my eye. He was wearing a button-front flannel and a baseball cap, but he looked…familiar. So I tried to discreetly glance over at him as much as I could, and the more I looked at him, the more I thought in my head, “holy s**t, that’s John Mulaney!”
Anyhow, he eventually walks into the next section of the museum, and I’m trying to get my friend to follow me. The problem is, she has no idea who John Mulaney is. That was the worst part: I couldn’t even share this moment with my friend who was right there with me. Anyways, I convince her to follow me to the next room, where Kid Gorgeous himself appears to be on a private tour with a docent assigned specifically to him. The two of them had their backs to us, looking at this giant stained-glass mural on the far wall of this large room. So, I walk up to this (admittedly beautiful) mural, make believe I’m just standing there appreciating it, all the while stealing glances at the guy standing at most ten feet away from me, who I am 100% sure at this point is John Mulaney. But my annoying friend (who I’m incidentally not friends with anymore, for reasons unrelated to this story) wanted to continue on with the museum, so I went to the next room with her. But had we just stayed in that next room for just a couple more minutes, we would have been alone in a giant nineteenth-century stock exchange with John Mulaney and his private docent. But alas, my friend was getting impatient, so we missed that opportunity. The good thing is that our mutual friend, who couldn’t make the trip and was back in Oregon (our home state), is a huge John Mulaney fan, and I got to revel in her jealousy.
My dad has worked in the world of comedy since before I was born, so I was taught not to bug celebrities. But still…it was quite an experience. And believe me when I say I was telling everyone within earshot about that story when I got back from Chicago.

Thanks a lot, @Turn Left At Greenland, for sharing! I can’t believe you were so close to John Mulaney! I’m incredibly jealous!
Wise of you to give him space, though. I don’t know if I trust myself to do the same if I ever come close to Kid Gorgeous himself! I’m also quite surprised that your friend didn’t know him….but as John once said “I matter a whole lot to a very small group of people” (…or something like that)
I’ve been a huge John Mulaney fan for a couple of years now. I’ve watched each of his specials multiple times + his SNL appearances and his new special John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch (its for kids technically but I just make the excuse that I’m watching it with my little sister ) + Big Mouth + Oh, Hello!. My love and adoration has gotten to the point where I can now recite his jokes directly along with his stand-up specials. My friends and I also find a way to insert Mulaney quotes into daily conversation. It’s quite fun.

^ I LOVE JOHN MULANEY!!! I know two people who have met him/been in close proximity to him (one of which has also met Dhani Harrison, crazily enough) and I just died of jealousy when I found out. He’s the best. I wonder how long we have to wait before SNL brings him back again.

Yeah, I was just getting into John Mulaney when this encounter happened. The friend who wasn’t there, as well as my roommate at college, got me into him. And I also just remembered that my friend who I was with lived literally a block away from the old Salt and Pepper Diner! She had some vague notion of its significance, but not really
I even got my mom into John Mulaney, which I’m still quite proud of, since neither she nor I are huge fans of standup, so it’s really nice to be able to share an appreciation of him.

@AppleScruffJunior, wondering if you have heard about the Discover Ireland tourism campaign called “Fill your heart”. The premise of the tv commercials is that they gave a couple from the US a free vacation in return for wearing a cam attached to a heart monitor. The camera starts recording each time their heart rate rises and then they show us the results. At least in California, the 3 or 4 different commercials have been playing in heavy rotation since the beginning of the year. It’s too bad that they are spending so much money to attract visitors during a time when leisure airline travel is tanking. This is the initial commercial if you haven’t seen it:

The tourism board is always very creative with their ads and they do a great job in selling Ireland. I think their main fault is they are constantly showing the same sites over and over and over again and they end up becoming flooded by tourists and are just not very fun places to be in. The midlands in general (where I spend the majority of my time) is REALLY overlooked and bar the sea and beaches we have everything else to offer that Dublin, Cork, Kerry and (the place Americans really love going to) Waterford have minus the traffic, queues and pricey accommodation that all of those have.
I was once talking to an American couple in Germany and they were telling me they were going to spend 4 days in Waterford and I was like….why? No offense to Waterford it is lovely and everything just….4 days?!? So, I told them to go to Galway for 2 of those days instead .
You can have brilliant adventure, historic, relaxing or family holidays in the midlands at a fraction of the cost of having the same holiday in Dublin. We’re also friendlier and will be very interested in the strange foreign people that have come into our pub. Discover Ireland is missing a trick in not promoting the midlands as ‘just as fun but more affordable’. The country is so small you could also make day trips to Galway or Clare from your “western base” in Roscommon, Westmeath or Tipperary, so you get in the ‘bucket list’ things while saving a small fortune.

I did apply for a job with them a good few years ago as being front-line staff for tourists in Galway and they rejected me! Probably cause I wouldn’t say to tourists “oh yes you should definitely go to the Cliffs of Moher” (THERE ARE FAR BETTER CLIFFS, DON’T FALL FOR THE TRAPPPPP!!!). I have a big crush on Dún Aonghasa on the Aran Islands which if you ever come here during the summer, would definitely recommend going on the ferry from Galway, renting a bicycle and cycling around on one of the islands for the day. I do it with my parents every summer and it’s lovely.
It has a lovely stone fort on it that is at least from 1100BC and you can walk and touch it all you like.
The cliffs on Inis Mór are particularly mental, it’s the one benefit of being right next to the Atlantic Ocean- cool cliffs.
You also have the cool natural ‘swimming pool’/worm hole/swallow hole. It’s difficult to find but very cool when you see it.

You’ve got me all excited ASJ . That’s why it is so important to me that I get the driving situation sorted out. When I come back I plan to be there for at least a month, so I may look into taking some lessons. I do have to say that Dublin was awesome and I was treated very well by everyone I met. I arrived on a Friday night directly from Aberdeen, and after 2 weeks hiking in the highlands I was not prepared for the rush of humanity. We ended up in a pizza place that had an odd ambiance, a regular looking pub up front and booths in the back that were enclosed in metal cages. I ordered my first Guinness and was feeling kind of down. I’d looked forward to coming to Ireland my whole life (my heritage lies in Cork) and just wasn’t feeling it. The place was playing Irish rock bands really loud and the U2 song Stay came on. I could see 4 lads in the pub area that looked like they had just got off work (loosened ties and rolled up shirt sleeves) and every time Bono would sing stay they would join in at the top of their lungs.
If I could stay –
Then the night would give you up
Stay – then the day would keep its trust
Stay – with the demons you drowned
Stay – with the spirit I found
Stay – and the night would be enough
Don’t know if it was the Guinness or leprechaun magic but I started to feel it. The song ended and one of the guys up front hollered “play it again”, which they did. This time everyone sang along and the emotions came – I was so happy to finally be there. The waitress bopped up smiling with a new Guinness and when the bill came she didn’t charge me. Maybe she liked my singing .

Dearest sweetest forum users,
I would be eternally grateful if you could answer my group’s stupid student survey for a project we have to do. Feel free to send it onto other friends etc. as we’re trying to get the broadest mix of responses possible. It should take max. 2 minutes and if you have any queries about it feel free to ask.
Also to keep this up near the top of the forum (apologies to the mods for the mild spamming I’m inviting) and so even non-registered users will see it. I’d really appreciate it if you have done it to comment ‘done’ here or something along those lines.
The only criteria to answer it is you have to have a smartphone.
Vielen Dank!

Just to rudely update, as there are quite a few male users on here. Would you mind taking the survey as our results are leaning way too female at the mo.

Thanks to all who have answered so far. It is very much appreciated and after a few days when the numbers are dying down, I’ll be happy to tell the results if anyone cares. The average time it takes to finish it is 1:06m so you have no excuse not to do it 😉
