Our first one is to the beloved song “Love Me Do “. We have turned this CATCHY POP HIT into a cheaply made modern adaptation that we could have done wonders with, but decided instead that we just wanted to get it out quickly to make
moneypeople happy.I wouldn’t call Love Me Do a catchy pop hit. It’s so boring and repetitive that it’s easily their worst single ever and if this was the only thing they released, i’d think they were a terrible band. Fortunately, they more than made up for it with their next single Please Please Me /Ask Me Why .
I think the song could be considered beloved. It’s not their best by far, but it was their first single. Also isn’t repetitive what makes a catchy pop hit? I mean I know some fabulous songs that I love dearly that would never be catchy pop hits. There are also catchy pop hits that I think are weak, empty, pointless songs

There’s repetitive and there’s tedium and i think Love Me Do fits the latter. It only uses 3 chords (of which one is rarely used) and each verse uses the same simple lyrics. The only redeeming quality IMO is the harmonica and even that’s nothing to get hung about. And while the B-side is far more complex, i wouldn’t call it a particularly good song either.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

My favourite thing about Love Me Do is how encouraging it is. Like, hey, if The Beatles started out on something so mediocre and got to where they were, then anyone can make it

I love ‘Love Me Do ‘.
Listen to what was in the charts back in October 1962 and then listen to ‘Love Me Do ‘. It’s simple and pretty basic but it was very different from the dull bland crap that was filling up the charts. Looking at the Beatles, I don’t really recall them ever just walking in and blasting everything out of the arena, they got a toe in the door beforehand. I think they said similar in regards to America.

They make the point that US radio was less bland than what the BBC offered, but “Love Me Do ” indeed doesn’t much sound like anything on Billboard’s Hot 100 from that year either…maybe a bit of Bruce Channel or the Everlys. Not a good song, but a pretty good record, the way I see it.

The BBC broadcast ‘Pick of the Pops’ on a Sunday, two charts a week in one two hour programme, and available (depending on where you live) on the BBC Sounds section of their website. Occasionally they go back to a chart (like mentioned in the article vonbontee posted) from the early 60’s and it is a real eye-opener to just how different the music was before the Beatles came, and even into the mid-’60s. Well worth listening to to get a taste of how it was instead of reading about as it can be difficult to truly comprehend just how tepid and at times unlistenable a lot of the music was. The ’60s get written about as being this wonderful decade of unbelievable music when in truth so much of it was just plain s**t.
The Beatles were right at the front of the movement that changed all that, which is quite something.

Has anyone else noticed that quite a few previously-read posts/threads are showing up as new again?
I don’t have that, but I do need to refresh the website a few times before it displays any new posts.

I don’t complain often, but when workers don’t do their job, I get angry!
We put NEW stickers on books while they are in the NEW BOOKS area so that they get re-shelved properly, to match the location in the online catalog. When the books have been in the NEW BOOKS area for a few months, we send them upstairs to be shelved with the other books. When the NEW stickers are pulled off, sometimes a little sticky residue is left on the book. The *&@*! student workers are supposed clean the ^%##& residue off. They have been told multiple times to get it right. I just checked 1/2 a cart one of them supposedly finished, and some of the books still had sticky residue on them.
