So why is baby ok? It’s just as odd a term when you think about it, especially if a grown adult is saying what he/she wants to do with their “baby”.

I like the song for what it is – a throwaway filler that I doubt John gave more than 10 minutes of time to when writing or any thought of 5 minutes after ‘WTB’ was released if at all after agreeing it would go on the album. It’s not like he suggested it for the first album, the band failed when recording it, forced it back on the group for the second, the band making a truly dire job of it, and horrify me every time it’s brought to mind. Nor did he rewrite the lyrics, give it a whole new tune, produce something just as awful, shove it in one of the worst medleys ever, release it, and irritate the hell out of me again. 

No idea how anyone can think ‘Little Child ‘ is the worst song on ‘With The Beatles ‘ when only a few songs later the truly abysmally atrocious ‘Hold Me Tight ‘ starts. The only song in the entire Beatles catalogue I will only ever listen to as part of the album it came on and even then I have to take a deep breath to get thru it and try not to pay any attention when it’s on. Ghastly lyrics, backing vocals featuring John and George sounding ever more bored than during ‘A Taste Of Honey ‘, a rhythm track that can barely be bothered to keep going, and a lead vocal where Paul is trying so hard to bring life to such a piece of crap yet only results in mutilating it even more.

  

Well I don’t use ‘baby’ or ‘babe’ either, from a quick Google we’ve been using ‘baby’ in the romantic sense in English since at the very latest 1694. It’s just culturally more acceptable than hearing “Little Child “. I don’t have a psychological reason as to why baby is more acceptable. 

I don’t know why we’re bemoaning Hold Me Tight when Honey Don’t is just standing there, even Ringo sounds fed up of it a minute in, and it’s his gratuitous track!

Well Honey Don’t play that song around me if you don’t want me throwing you out of the house.

Also I was wrong with a minute in, it’s 34 seconds in. I gave Ringo a bit too much credit there.
