And then I will probably buy bass pedals because I need bass pedals! I need a good envelope filter and a octaver at the very least.
MXR makes these for bass! haven’t tried them myself, but I find MXR stuff is really good. they’re probably my favourite of the big brand pedals. that new Boss octave pedal looks really great too!
wrt the John as guitarist thing: I can’t fingerpick anywhere near as well as John did and I can’t do his strumming on All My Loving
he’s a GOAT rhythm guitarist, which is a very underrated kind of guitarist

Analog man makes the most accurate envelope, its just a clone of the original MXR but better sensitivity. My Q-tron for electro harmonix is being repaired, and its been weeks since i’ve heard from the guy. getting a little concerned. q balls makes great stuff the Riddle is what I use for guitar and the enigma is their bass filter.

Alright, I’ve been busy adding Ringo songs to the Ultimate Guitar site which if you ever wanted to play them now you can. There’s still a majority of his catalog not on the site and I intend to add all if not most of it. I’ll continue to post, as I add.
Has there been a Ukulele Early 1970 yet? That’d be a good addition. (I like being very literal with the last verse of course )

MXR’s envelope filter unfortunately is more of a general auto-wah than a proper envelope filter like a q-tron even if it is more optimized for bass frequencies, which is a bit of a disappointment because their stuff is usually a lot better than that. Their octave pedals are good, track ok, probably better than the Bosses which are known to be rather woolly once you get down towards the bottom end (Tony Levin used an OC-2 on Sledgehammer, but he’s playing the high notes and the pedal’s doing the low notes).
@sir walter raleigh I do know about the enigma, its definitely an option for me, probably easier to get in some ways if I can’t get the one I’m interested in.

@ewe2 I agree about MXR or other envelope filters of the type. Some more nuanced envelopes take some messing with to get a nice clean autowah, which the mxr pedals can automatically do. More customization is usually what I prefer, and is definitely what I get in the q balls. Normally I just go for the Jerry tones, but I love dialing in some good high pass tones as well.

I usually just use the guitar tabs for the Ukulele. I’m sure there’s some transposing that goes on with the Uke but I have yet to look into it.

It’s just like the higher four strings of guitar, moved a perfect fourth up (so the D string becomes G, G string becomes C, B string is E, and E is A) as though you had put a capo on the fifth fret of your guitar and pretended the E and A string had disappeared. So the open C chord shape is in F, A shape is D, D shape is G, etc. Of course it gets a little more complicated when you have weirder chords that require notes that aren’t in the top four strings and you have to move them around to cover them all on uke, and that’s where google comes in but you can get pretty far with the simple chords. (I have some experience in this. )

@ewe2 every time I’ve heard an OC-2, I’ve liked it (can you imagine the opening of When Doves Cry without it?). I had an OC-3 for a while, and that that was total digital garbage (I’m not big on a lot of Boss pedals, which is sad cause they have the best design). only sort of octave effect I personally use is Octavia type fuzz.

Yes the OC-3 looks like overkill and it might track a little better (digital pedals usually do) but analog pedals usually sound nicer.

those new Epiphone Les Paul Standards look great, first time I’ve seriously considered getting a Gibson type guitar in quite a while
I’ve basically always been a Fender guy (particularly Telecasters), although I have had some Epiphones I’ve liked in the past
I don’t intend to ever spend more than a grand on a guitar, so I’m probably never going to own an actual Gibson

I was paying something off at the time, so I missed out on a great little Korean-made Epiphone LP Junior on ebay that would have been perfect, it was very sad to watch it go rather cheaply too. You don’t see them too often at any price down here and certainly not one of that vintage. Waiting to see if I will have the money to afford the downpayment on the Yamaha BB735a now that the groovebox is paid off.

But now you can just pick up and play in different tunings instead of having to tune the same guitar each time.

Definitely. In fact, i’ve currently got my new one tuned to open A (AC#EAC#E) since Strats come stock with 9s, which feels WAY too light for me so i had to tune it up but it’ll be in E standard once i put on some 12s.

I got my Maschine mk3 finally and then I had a massive amount of software to download for it and I bought some more software because there was a special deal so the downloading took all night and now I have gazillions of stuff and its all a bit intimidating so I’m doing my typical thing of “thinking about things” (ie play Minecraft instead) and calming down enough to go and learn it. I needed Kontakt for it because its industry-standard and so many sample packs use Kontakt libraries now and I can use them in Reaper to play through the Modx. It also forced me to buy more RAM for the computer, the poor thing was struggling along on 8gb, well soon it’ll have 20gb, which should be enough to keep things running smoothly. I am writing things on the Modx, its not a bad platform for demos now that I’m used to it and I can whack down some patterns and think about song structures later. I sort of want to do a Bill Laswell and go ambient reggae and I’m hoping the Maschine will give me some workflow to make that happen easier than the Modx for some things, we’ll see! Also I have put money on the Yamaha BB735a 5-string bass, so incredible reggae stuff will happen there soon!
