just bought a new organ Its the best thing aside from an authentic b3, the Hammond Xk5. I cannot wait to own this incredible instrument. My playing is about to absolutely explode, which is good since i’ve mainly been focusing on guitar lately and have noticeably leveled up.
That sounds fantastic!! Do send pics when you get it

Yes do send pix cos I have no idea of the dimensions of such a thing, I assume they’re big and heavy. You lucky thing, Hammonds have such a great sound. I would sample the hell out of that thing though. My modx comes this week and if it doesn’t have a good hammond patch I’m going to have to make one and I’m going to make you send me wavs of things like the keybed noises and after-keys etc

I’m down @ewe2! The XK5 is amazing because its relatively compact, a single console weighs about 35 lbs, and it sounds just like the real thing. I assure you your best organ patch will sound like a Lennon’s Vox during Shea compared to the XK5. It has multi layered key sensitivity, with a completely customizable key click, as well as the full set of drawbars. The only comparison is the B3 itself.
Now I just need to save up a couple grand for a Leslie Rotary Speaker and i’ll have the perfect sound.

I started band camp last week and have another week to go (socially distanced band camp don’t worry it’s easy because we’re not a big band at all and we mostly practice sectionals and we are required to wear masks when not playing our instrument.). We’re not doing drill or anything because the school board cut our budget and we don’t have enough money this year to commission drill, so instead we’re just playing our whole show standing in place with small visuals (though of course the majorettes and colorguard are doing their thing)– though who knows who the heck we’re going to perform to if there’s gonna be no spectators at football games (we also can’t travel and play at away games because we can’t socially distance properly on the buses *sigh*).
But anyways I started band camp not having played or practiced my trumpet for like 6 months and I expected to be really really bad but actually I’m not really really bad at all– in fact I sort of picked up right where I left off and my range remained intact so I’m pretty happy about that, especially since I’m gonna need my range and playing ability since I’m the only trumpet who plays the second trumpet part (we only have four trumpets rip– our section was severely downsized in the past years. We had 8 my freshman year, for context, and now we have only one Trumpet 1, one Trumpet 2, and two Trumpet 3s). It also helps that the music this year is not that difficult and that the highest note I play in my music is a high F#. I also am able to better understand how chords work because of playing guitar, yay!
Me: *brings my guitar one day to band camp*
Freshmen: OMIGOSH LMAO CAN YOU PLAY wOnDeRwAlL?!

My friend and I are going to the guitar shop tomorrow because she’s gonna buy her bass – I’m excited to look at all the pretty instruments and check out the mandolins too
Y’all if I don’t play Stairway to Heaven while I’m there FEEL FREE to ROAST MY ASS. It’s been like 3 YEARS since I learned that song and I STILL HAVEN’T PLAYED IT AT A GUITAR SHOP.
MEMERY MUST BE SERVED

Cool!
Every year or two since 2013 I’ve fantasized about buying a Korg MS-20 mini; I had such fun with their old virtual controller back in the ’00s…but I hate spending large amounts of $ (and have no actual keyboard skills anyways)

Oh I think you know what I want, ALL THE SOUNDS
I’m only partly kidding, to do a really thorough job of sampling you’d have to do all the notes at a few different velocities on all possible settings and include keyboard noises but the real work is making the patches from the raw samples, they have to be edited to have loop points so you can have sustained notes for pads, and be keyed and ranged correctly because samples recorded at one part of a keyboard won’t work at the other end of a keyboard etc. That’s how the professionals do it!
But I’d settle for just all the notes in each main setting (you don’t have to do absolutely every combination, just the best ones), do a short and a long note, try to make them as regular as possible, record them in a DAW or Audacity and quantize them to the same length and save them as WAV files. If you think you can record other noises such as the physical keyboard noises such as after-key sounds or other noises like distortion that the organ makes go for it. Throw me a link to a google drive or a onedrive or wherever you have an archive to it in PMs.
I’m going to sample my kazoos and unless I find that someone’s already done a good melodica patch I’m going to buy a melodica and do my own, cos all I’ve found is a couple of harmonica patches and they’re close but not good enough.

Please do it, don’t deny yourself like that. My purchase did raise some eyebrows among my friends, but my oldest friends from highschool remember what I was like about pianos, it was a daily thing for me for 5 years. Look, as much as I am enjoying getting my chops back (what chops there are, including yowling I’m Not In Love with a rhodes patch to the concern of my cat), there’s enough silly noises in there where it’s one-finger bleep happiness and I don’t need to think about anything, and as challenging as a synth is to look at, it’s only a thing made of smaller things, you can break it down into those things and understand it piece by piece and it will make sense to you. Money is only unused potential, you are the activator. I bought this because I had a window of opportunity and I damn well took it. You can always learn (or recover in my case) keyboard skills. Money won’t teach you anything.

Had a great time at the guitar shop today… I spent about an hour and a half playing Led Zeppelin riffs (+ the Something guitar solo… those bends just sounded p e r f e c t) on a really nice Gibson Les Paul that I can’t afford… dreamy
also noticed George was on top in this set of coasters
as it should be
also this happened and this…. but I didn’t get kicked out, I’m disappointed
I have major GAS now… I want a Les Paul, a mandolin, a 12-string… and I just got a bass

Huh, how are they making the guitar shops work with Covid? Are they wiping the guitars off after use or something?
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Yeah, and they only have one section of amps to try things out instead of giving you the run of the store, so that they can better manage who’s touching what.

I’m currently learning bass guitar for jazz band and having tons of fun doing so. I don’t have my own bass currently, so my music teacher let me borrow and use the music departments bass guitar (a not unworn black Fender P-Bass that was donated to the school by a former student some time ago, which I had to restring and clean up after unearthing it from the back of the band room). I don’t have an amp at home, either, so I just practice without one at my house and use the school’s bass amp at jazz practices.
It’s a challenge right now, but I’m having loads of fun!

I APPROVE THIS INITIATIVE.
I’ve been playing so much bass lately lol I actually almost gave myself blisters on my picking hand, now I’ve got HENCH calluses – I’m concerned that it is rapidly becoming my favorite instrument

Awesome!
I’m thinking of buying a banjo, or asking for one for Christmas. That is all.
