Getting to grips with Cyn, she’s a bit harder to play on the middle positions than I was expecting, it’s really a workout for my hand. Doing a lot more finger-picking than I expected but it’s too much fun. I’m almost at the stage where I feel confident of recording with it now, still in the process of setting up the new computer.

Acoustic finger-picking is basically the only reason I have not completely thrown over guitar for bass at this point
(also David Gilmour and, y’know, my bandmates relying on me heh heh)

Yes I’m thinking of getting a book of fingerpicking techniques and really getting into it again, but I might get a smaller guitar for it, I’ve been eyeing off a Gretsch G9500 Jim Dandy which is almost a guitarlele, it’s small enough with a short scale and an almost banjo tone. This is a good overview from quite a picky guitar guy who does some reviews I like:
I could do a whole lot of Dylan and Cohen on that.

I know, I’m terrible! I’m sitting here drooling over Strymon Volante pedals too. GAS is a terrible disease.

I’ve sorta gotten into Billy Strings lately (this guy’s an absolute madman) and by extension bluegrass is kinda growing on me and by extension, between that and Led Zeppelin’s eternal acoustifolk awesomeness, I kinda want to play mandolin now (of course I don’t actually have a mandolin, or money for that matter, but ya know) it’s got such an endearing timbre and like a violin but it has frets so it’s way better than a violin, how hard can it be?
(Speaking of bluegrass mandolin… Sierra Hull omg! I saw her when I went to the International Bluegrass Music Association festival a couple years ago with some friends and can confirm she is a fantastic mandolin picker!)

That’s silly. I uploaded the photo but never pressed submit!Slowly getting them tuned to sound more like Ringo, but it’s slow going.
Grats on the new kit, Artist makes some good basic gear. Everyone’s expanding their artistic palettes!
Also Bebu, that mandolin looks and sounds fantastic!
Indeed, Bug has to do all the REM now, especially The Wrong Child
I’ve been looking at lutes (mandolin is a descendant), I didn’t know but there’s a French company, Le Luth Doré who make proper-spec classical lutes, which are pricey but lovely. Of course they’d cost a mint to import let alone the price which is anywhere from €1.3k for a Renaissance lute to €2.7k for a bigger Baroque lute, but in terms of classical instruments that’s dirt cheap. They are very beautiful and complicated-looking, and the ukulele is also descended from them (well, technically from the baroque guitar)! I have been playing Cynthia almost every day since I got her, all the other guitars are jealous. I might have to get that Jim Dandy to satisfy my lutish craving though.

Thanks, goosebumps time @Beatlebug. Just amazing how quick you pick up new instruments. And that vocal is right in your sweet spot. Really enjoyed it (and the shout-out to Cali too).
haha I must admit I’m impressed by my own ability to fake proficiency so soon after taking it up

Thanks! It does all right for an inexpensive mandolin, I would like to get myself a nicer one someday. I got to play my friends’ 82-year-old Gibson mandolin yesterday, now that was a beaut.

I just had a listen to it, there’s like two vocals that chase each other around and a thousand chinga-chingas (which I like but there’s only one of me)… I guess the live version is less complicated I gotta do all the Zeppelin first because why would I start on easy mode? OOOOOOOHHH DANCE IN THE DARK OF NIGHT… SING TO THE MORNIN’ LIIIIGHT (speaking of vocals chasing each other around…)
Which reminds me, my band covered “Man On The Moon” for a space-themed birthday party last year (with no mandolin though)… fun times…

Oh yeah pick the main vox you can’t do both, but I think the mandolin in that is particularly pretty and comes closest to the style often demonstrated in Zeppelin. Playing an old mandolin like that, I’m jelly.

just bought a new organ Its the best thing aside from an authentic b3, the Hammond Xk5. I cannot wait to own this incredible instrument. My playing is about to absolutely explode, which is good since i’ve mainly been focusing on guitar lately and have noticeably leveled up.
