Perfectly all right, @Ron Nasty!
So basically it’s this: I’m pretty much self-taught in most subjects (history, music *ahem*, grammar, science) and my mother does math with me (). The classes I talk about are fairly informal courses run by other homeschoolers in people’s living rooms.
This be called unschooling, and ask not if I learn anything. I do, thank you very much.
That’s very interesting. I have a few follow-up Qs, if I may.
Is the community aspect (classes, socialising) seen as integral, vital, preferable, nice to have or incidental? ie do home schoolers typically build in some kind of external structure to broaden their experiences and insights?
Would you educate your children in the same or a similar way? Any misgivings?
Why did your parents choose this for you? What’s their background?
How does unschooling work if a child is at risk of failure? Not everyone has a tendency towards autodidacticism. Is it sink or swim?
And can you tell us a bit about self-discipline? Left to my own devices I’d have just studied music and humanities (which is basically what I did after leaving school), and I wouldn’t have had a particularly rounded education. So how do you achieve that outside a more formal structure?
Ahh, good questions. I would like to know these things too, it sounds pretty interesting and unusual. Very intriguing. How does it work with tests and exams?

Different folk have different ways of doing things, but most homeschoolers I know do a lot of things outside the home.

1, Yes and 2, no.
Why did your parents choose this for you? What’s their background?
They had rather horrid times in school and wanted for me not to suffer the same.

Unschooling is not for everyone. Talk to your doctor to see if unschooling is right for you.

While we’re asking…Are your siblings “unschoooled” too? Does NC have tests you are required to take every so often to check your progress on subjects? Have you given any thought about going to college? Will you go to a formal school sometime during your teen years? Have you given any thought yet about jobs or careers you want to have in the future? Would you like to be a stay-at-home mom with several children to raise?
1. Yes. 2. Yes, we have to take the CAT (California Achievement Test) at the end of the year. 3. Some. I try to avoid thinking about growing up though 😉 4. Probably not. 5. See answer to question 3. 6. Not really/maybe/I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

More questions for silly girl! Why do you art? Why do you Beatles? Where is the rice pudding? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
1. Because the world is round, and it turns me on. 2. Because the music is fab, and it blows my mind. 3. In the Beatles Bible House kitchen. 4. I haven’t had a Tootsie Pop in years so I don’t know.

Have you try sit on air one hour?
Nope cause I am always successful at sitting on air since there is a little bit of air between me and what I’m sitting at.

I’m at a complete loss……Saucepans and sitting on air…..Must be my age…..
…….And another thing, I’m at a complete loss.
If it’s age-related, it must be my age too. I’m also at a complete loss.
Can’t we just all sit on cornflakes in English gardens?…

Then you can give your plane ticket money to me. I’d love to go to England just to sit in a garden…
especially if it was the garden at Friar Park…

The problem is that I think your not over 18 so I would have to contact your adult units before you get the money!
