What is one band/musical artist that you wish that more people were aware of?(…and don’t say the Beatles. The idea is to name lesser-known and/or underrated bands.)
Keaton Henson. He’s probably a bit Marmite (does that phrase mean anything to non-Brits? It’s a love/hate thing), but I find him fascinating. From what I can tell he’s something of a Nick Drake figure, an author, artist and musician who makes incredibly emotionally raw music.
Watch this. It’s the most powerful thing you’ll see all day:

“What is your favorite type of Cookie? (Biscuit for non AMERICANS)”
We actually have (sadly, had in the ACT) a chain called “The Cookie Man” and they bake some nice cookies/biscuits on the premises. My favourites are the coconut macaroons and the (very thin and crunchy) brandy snaps.

Cookscuit and/or biskie for Anglophiles who reside in the USA.
I’m not very keen on cookies… at least, I thought I wasn’t, until I started calling them biscuits and dunking them in tea…
Oreos are good; I also fancy the butter cookies my grandmother bakes during the holidays. I don’t like soft cookies that much.

I think this is a great question!
What is your favourite font?
I mainly use Comic Sans MS as I like its informality, but that doesn’t stop me switching to John Lennon when the mood takes me.

My bloody browser won’t let me see either of them– they just look like serif to me
I reeeeeeally like fonts, all kinds– Google Docs has some incredibly creative ones. So I can’t really pick a favourite, but I do like fonts that imitate people’s hands, like Comic Sans. For everyday I like a serif with a hint of fun.

Yes!
@Beatlebug, here’s a question I’ve had for a while but been afraid to ask, would you be willing to explain more about your schooling situation, if that’s not too intrusive?
It’s just, I think for many of us, home schooling means you’re taught at home by your parents, maybe with tutors coming for specific subjects. I get the feeling you situation isn’t quite that, as you’ll talk about being in class, and talking to the class.
I know it’s nosy, but I’m curious… and that’s what this thread is for!

Perfectly all right, @Ron Nasty!
So basically it’s this: I’m pretty much self-taught in most subjects (history, music *ahem*, grammar, science) and my mother does math with me (). The classes I talk about are fairly informal courses run by other homeschoolers in people’s living rooms.
This be called unschooling, and ask not if I learn anything. I do, thank you very much.

Candy Land could be made up to look like Yellow Submarine . The “candy” would be various drugs in the adult version of the game.

That’s very interesting. I have a few follow-up Qs, if I may.
Is the community aspect (classes, socialising) seen as integral, vital, preferable, nice to have or incidental? ie do home schoolers typically build in some kind of external structure to broaden their experiences and insights?
Would you educate your children in the same or a similar way? Any misgivings?
Why did your parents choose this for you? What’s their background?
How does unschooling work if a child is at risk of failure? Not everyone has a tendency towards autodidacticism. Is it sink or swim?
And can you tell us a bit about self-discipline? Left to my own devices I’d have just studied music and humanities (which is basically what I did after leaving school), and I wouldn’t have had a particularly rounded education. So how do you achieve that outside a more formal structure?

While we’re asking…
Are your siblings “unschoooled” too? Does NC have tests you are required to take every so often to check your progress on subjects? Have you given any thought about going to college? Will you go to a formal school sometime during your teen years? Have you given any thought yet about jobs or careers you want to have in the future? Would you like to be a stay-at-home mom with several children to raise?
