@Wigwam, this “game” started out to be questions someone would ask another member. For example, I might ask you what color your hair is or what your favorite Beatles song is. The “game” doesn’t always follow what its true intent is. We could get it back on the rails if people want to.

Maybe we should get back on topic after having drifted away. We’re meant to get to know each other.
So.
If you could do your realistic dream job/life role (so not going back to 1964 and befriending a Beatle) what would you like to do? Doesnt have to be paid so you could win the lottery and go and volunteer to build houses in Africa if thats what you would like to do.

Atlas, I didn’t know that trailers used to come at the end of movies. I had always wondered why they were called that!
I would love to be a travel agent/tour guide and work extensively with my clients. And/or, be very active on the Rick Steves travel forum by living in a European city and whenever someone posts a logistics question, I would go figure it out for them.

Not sure how realistic, but my dream job would have been Shortstop for the New York Yankees.

I was just wondering if many people in Thailand speak English. Atlas, do you speak some Thai? So I looked up languages in Thailand and saw a program for people to spend a year teaching English in Thailand (for pay). I might like going different places in the world for a year at a time to teach English.

Yes many do. They have to learn English at school. A lot of Thais I know prefer to ‘text/what app’ to each other in English as there are 40+ letter’s in Thai and with predictive spelling English is much quicker for them……..They text English faster than I can.
There are very few Thai words that are the same in English…..so it’s not easy to grasp at first. They say ‘lift’ ‘taxi’ and ‘computerrr’ the same and that’s about it.
It’s a tonal language how you say a word changes what it means…..’Kow’ depending on ‘rising’, ‘falling’, ‘flat’, ‘rise-fall’, ‘fall-rise’ inflections means either: ‘rice’ or ‘white’, or ‘enter’, or ‘knee’ or ‘he or she’……..Distinguishing the different tones is hard for me but context helps. This tonal basis makes for quite a small vocabulary, but with hardly any points of reference it takes a while to assimilate. Pick up a French…German or Spanish newspaper you can grasp some meaning…….Thai gives no clues.
About 1 in 7 people on Earth speak English, (for instance there are more English speakers in Nigeria than there are in Britain)… and so English here is the likely common language if a Thai meets a Swede or a German…….It’s fun and quite an honor when you think about it to see how English has spread and how useful it has become. 80% of all the information in the world stored on computers, is in English. We’re so lucky. Makes us lazy too of course.
I haven’t learned to read ‘thai’ but my spoken ‘thai’ is functional. I get enormous credit for that as most ‘falangs’ (as we are called) have hardly any at all.
The teaching of English to Thais is a well trodden path so there’s lots of info’ on the web.
I’m retired and my visa states that I cannot work but I would think it’s rewarding emotionally to teach over here…….won’t make much money doing it though.
If you need anything, or there’s anyway I can help just PM me.

It will be at least 9 more years before I could think about a second career. I am eligible for retirement from my current position then (2024). I’d have a steady income then that would allow me to travel. I’d have to work things out with family. But, if you’re still there in 9 years, I may PM you.

Nice to know the site will still be around in 9 years.
Rudimentary math suggests mmm will have about 44,492 posts by then…give or take.

On a positive note today the Dr told me he had some very good news…… apparently I’m going to have a disease named after me.

How many posts will, @Beatlebug have? How many conspiracy theorists will have made posts that the mods shuffle off to be buried in a thread somewhere? Will @Joe have trained his mods to think like him in 9 years time? We have 9 years to contemplate the answers to these and other questions.

At the present rate, SG will have posted 67,032 times (counting the ones she already has) 9 years from today…give or take.

I joined and then disappeared for a good number of months with only a minimal number of posts made so my posting didnt get going until probably around the end of November 2011 if not later.
All i can be sure of is i was on another Beatles forum (became a mod there) for a long while before it disappeared one day and i think i signed up to there and here around the same time.
