I can’t imagine life without dessert. In fact, a friend is taking me out to a new ice cream place today as a belated birthday thing.

Good question. The mods were emailing about something similar not to long ago, and we weren’t sure how that part of the system works. Have you ever had this situation happen to you, AD40? Did it happen now with the Ringo Album thread?

Your subscription goes to the big pile of things that are lost.

@Ron Nasty I really REALLY missed this site and everyone on it. I always feel better after spending some time here. I’m so glad to be back. And I’m adding Ravioli to my signature.
Oh, do I have to ask a question now? I hope I don’t have to direct it at someone specific.
Okay, um…

You don’t have to ask a question in this thread. They’re optional.

I was just reminded today of one of my favorite memories – getting into my first choice of colleges – because the son of one of my friends just got into his first choice. I’m indirectly responsible for getting his parents together, so it sort of feels like hearing good news about a family member.

Pffft I’m almost tempted to put that in my signature… but it’s too long already.

OK…hahaha…my first jam session, age about 5. Friend/neighbour upstairs used to watch me on occasion, and one day I was there with her and her husband, who was a young police officer and had an ELECTRIC GUITAR, the first one I’d seen or heard for real. Cool! And the two of them knew I enjoyed listening to my records and playing my bongo drums in my room, so I went downstairs to fetch them and we played surf music for awhile! me on the skins, him on his Fender or Mosrite or whatever. I wasn’t familiar with “Wipe Out”, so he had to teach me the drum part.

What is your favorite memory?
*sees question* *contemplates Joefully* *hmmmm*
The one that comes to mind is the day I met Revolver .
It was during my Beatles hiatus about two years ago. Me and my folks were at a favourite restaurant, which was a sort of burgers-and-milkshakes diner-type place, and in the corner by the front window, there was a jukebox. Well, my granddad and I went over to pick a song or two, but my popular music education up to that point had been nil, so I didn’t have the first idea about any of the CDs in there… until I saw this one:
I thought I didn’t care about the Beatles anymore. My previous obsession had just been a phase.* I had left them behind… right? (I know, you’re probably like !!!! But to err is human, after all. I swear, I won’t do it again.)
Well, I didn’t know any of the other artists, so I chose a song off Revolver . Little did I know what I was starting (or rather re-starting). I picked “Good Day Sunshine “, because I couldn’t resist the promise of optimism and cheer in the title. Alas! as you may know, that track in particular is all too short. So me grandfather played “Taxman ” and “Eleanor Rigby ” and “And Your Bird Can Sing “, the last which has a whole nother story attached which I may or may not share at a future date. Anyway, it was lovely. Music and memories are two of the most personal and inexpressible things I have ever run across. One cannot express the glamour in drab and lifeless words. So you’ll just have to take my word for it that it was A Good Day’s Sunshine.
And to this day, listening to Revolver , especially “Good Day Sunshine “, will (sometimes) take me right back to that time.
*As an indirect result of this incident, I soon discovered that, as @Necko said,
So that’s why I’m Here Today .
