In order, Lord of the Rings, Cryptonomicon and Neverwhere. But I haven’t actually read books for a good while since the stroke and I’m finding it a lot easier to listen to audiobooks now so I guess I’ll have to listen to them instead of read.
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman is on my reading list as well (after I impulse bought Neil Gaiman books whilst at Barnes N Noble one time)– but Neverwhere is also my old Honors English teacher/future AP Lit teacher’s favorite book, so it comes highly recommended (so really my impulse buy is justified). Tried to read Lord of the Rings once in middle school but my 11-year-old self was like “nah”.
Sorry to hear about your stroke, though , but audiobooks I find are just as good– especially if you find ones with a great narrator or if you find one where there’s an entire voice cast, then it’s really immersive and interesting

Think I answered this last year…my favourite novel is probably one of: Alex Haley’s “Roots”, Margaret Atwood’s “The Edible Woman “, “The Water-Method Man” by John Irving, and maybe Stephen King’s “Firestarter”. Oh, and maybe throw Richard Adams’ “Watership Down” in too, although I haven’t re-read that one in 30+ years.

I’m very sad that even though the Sorting Hat gets a new song every year this one never came back.
@AppleScruffJunior @50yearslate
Now I know why I was confused by “hoggy warty Hogwarts”. I had no idea there were different versions of the movies (or I am suffering from the Mandela Effect). I have 2 versions of the movies so I’m going to check them both out.

As said before, I now cannot read regular (if that’s what you call them) books or long articles/posts due to not being able to concentrate for long periods and haven’t been able to for a good few years due to health reasons. I managed to get ‘Tune In’ completed before I had to stop, the last book I tried and completely failed to get going was Joe’s. I can read comic strips and short entries and so I make do with books like ‘Eight Arms To Hold You’ and ‘Peanuts’. I love ‘Peanuts’ and ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ (the latter I got complete thanks to @AppleScruffJunior sending me an amazon link when heavily reduced. Am always thankful for her doing that.).

I found both! Neil Gaiman does a reading of it himself and there’s also a cast reading of Neverwhere which sounds fantastic because it’s always seemed a radio play-friendly kind of book. Also I’ve found audiobook versions of the other two books so I’m doing well. I have similar concentration issues to @meanmistermustard probably for different reasons, but I can read computer screens okay where I can turn up the font size and pace myself, so I managed @Joe ‘s book that way. I listen to a LOT of podcasts which help very much, there’s a lot of great ones out there. My favourite, which is unfortunately being impacted by coronavirus is the Fall of Civilizations podcast (about the many reasons why civilizations collapse), followed by trashfuture (a politics/current events/funny/lefty), and well there’s your problem, “a podcast about engineering disasters with slides and jokes”.

^That was the last one, yeah? Or am I remembering wrong? I agree though, it’s absolutely wonderful.
Calvin and Hobbes is the very best comic strip of all time. Just a few days ago I reread The Authoritative Calvin & Hobbes and I’m planning a reread of the huge anthology-type ones soon.
I could never pick a favorite but this one is up there for sure.

Pretty sure this forum could live off of C&H strips. I’m torn as Joe might get sued and would not be pleased at losing the Beatles side but then C&H is so damn brilliant.
I also highly admire Bill Watterson as he could have sold all kinds of shitty merchandise and lived off the royalties handsomely but he refused and since he owns the copyright there is none. A bit like John Deacon retiring and not being involved in hawking Queen’s battered corpse around with anything that looks like cash (you could argue that he could fight it but I’m pretty sure he would lose the case).

If i’m not mistaken Bill has only drawn one comic since finishing C&H. It was the cover of this documentary about the failing comic strip business

Absolutely. Going down the slope to adulthood while still being freeze framed as a youngster. The white environment enveloping him too, fading to white instead of black.
Goddammit I’m going to cry now. I knew it was a beautifully organized, affecting piece of art, but I didn’t see that level of it in such detail.

It makes me tear up whenever I see it. It’s four panels of extreme nostalgia.
