Aw, why can’t you get one? Allergies? Parental restrictions? My parents point-blank REFUSED to let me get a rabbit when I first asked, but after a year of intense research and begging, they finally caved. Don’t give up

I dunno, we just aren’t in the position to get a cat right now. (It would be a family cat.) Our first and last cat, ten years ago, was very bad about abusing the litter-box and getting abused by neighbouring cats, plus we live on kind of a busy street, so I think that has something to do with it.

That’s a shame, maybe someday. 🙁
Here’s a related question: If you could have any pet (not including species you already own) what would it be? I’d like a horse, but it’ll never happen.
(oh and mythical creatures don’t count, we all want dragons)

A cat, obviously, and a bird would be cool too. I love parrots, they’re amazingly intelligent. It’d be a high-commitment kind of pet to have, though — they often bond with you for life.

Talking birds are scary as hell. If we’re talking high functioning animals, i’d much rather go with a primate like Koko the gorilla. What i love about monkeys and apes is that they can’t speak so you don’t have to worry about getting the s**t scared out of you but they are still very smart and can communicate through sign language.
But the best pet of all IMO is a baby. You may call it cheating but when you think about it, raising a baby is like taking care of a pet.

Duh, obviously. I meant ‘grow up’ in the colloquial sense of ‘grow into a mature adult human that can be independent of its parents’, which obviously a dog or cat never will, because it’s not a human.

Exactly. And then it would no longer be a pet.

Cats? Why yes indeed, let me tell you a tale. I’m thinking of adding a second cat to my first cat, Noot. Mainly because she’s very social and I don’t want her to get bored and become a fuddy-duddy kitty. Then I would have to rename her Snooty Nooty. That would be difficult for a cat to bear.
She is the kind of cat to demand pats and cuddles before she has a nap, and I think that is very sensible. I just need to find an obliging cat to take over this duty from time to time.
How could you refuse such cuteness? (That’s a rhetorical question, not a candid one). There is a slight danger that the answer to Cats? is more cats but fortunately economics prevents a full-blown attack of cattery.
She has the best derpface.

If I could have any pet, I would want a horse. Or an elephant. But realistically, I can see myself having 5 more dogs over the course of my life. It really sucks that they’re so much better than humans, but they don’t live nearly as long.

I just realized that most people here probably spend their free time on this site or listening to music alone instead of socializing.

Such a forum does tend to skew toward the nerdish introverts who spend time in their rooms conversing with others through writing rather than those exhausting real-world social interaction things. (Yes, I am an introvert. I enjoy socialisation… like once a week, with people I know well. )
And I talk to myself all the time. This is primarily because I sometimes think out loud, and I think too much, therefore I talk too much, and I don’t want to bore other people too much.
