That’s ‘Doctor’ to you kid .
I know Hartnell was credited as ‘Dr Who’ before someone jumps on me but that’s the character i.e. The Doctor. The show has always been called ‘Doctor Who’.
As for threads I avoid, mostly the gaming threads, and anyone that deals with bands I don’t really care about.

RE: the threads you avoid
Do you think those threads detract from the Forum as a whole? Do the ATN threads that aren’t Beatles, Beatles, Beatles, make this lesser of a place because the focus of the thread isn’t The Beatles?
I *try* to avoid the thread about John being haunted by his inner emptiness, but when someone makes a new post in the thread, I cave and look at it.

Personally I don’t mind alternate forums, the Beatles didn’t exist in a vacuum, so we shouldn’t. I don’t necessarily avoid any forum/thread, I just get interested in different things at different times.

That’s a good way of putting it. There aren’t many double ups with threads people dislike, so I don’t think any detract from the forum.
Besides, the Beatles influenced many bands/were influenced by many bands, so we should recognise those bands.

I think they are a vital part of keeping the forum active. That part of the social, rather than just Beatles, allows relationships – whether they are just forum relationships, or stretch beyond the forum – to form, and draws people back to see what’s being said by people they like. People are drawn here by Joe’s fantastic work, but they are drawn back again and again, many of us daily, by the sense of community which many of the threads in ATN creates.
While not all interest me, and there are those I doubt I have ever looked at, the role they play in keeping this community vibrant cannot be underestimated.

I agree with what the others said already. I don’t think that they detract. If anything, they enhance. Also, if you’ll notice, the people that avoid threads don’t consistently answer the same threads, so it seems like largely a taste thing.

I avoid the listening thread due to lag and some others like the rip or the Beatles threads about album releases.
The problem with games is that this isn’t a gamer forum so the more successful games need to be fairly simple and quick to pick up.
Also, I don’t think getting rid of threads I don’t read as much will make the forum better.

The two Dreams threads I have no interest in.
Beatles Press Conference: Hamburg, Germany 26th June 1966
Q: “What do you dream of when you sleep?”
PAUL: “The same as anyone else dreams of. (laughing) Standing in your underpants.”
JOHN: “What do you think we are? What do you dream of? (quietly, to the other Beatles) F*****g hell!”
PAUL: “We dream about the same things as everyone.”
Q: “Ringo, what do you dream?”
RINGO: “I just dream of everything like you do, you know. It’s all the same.”
JOHN: “We’re only the same as you, man, only we’re rich.”
(laughter)

I voted for considerate because I think misbehavior is an important part of childhood. If a child always behaved and never did anything wrong then they’d end up like these people.
And having children like them wouldn’t just be creepy, it’d also get their expectations super high and could make them have miserable lives compared to the children who misbehaved when they were younger and misbehavior can also help you learn not to do things again. I’m not saying that misbehaving is good but rather an important part of a child’s development.
On the other hand, being inconsiderate towards other people is bad, we have to learn to accept people for who they are and treat them with respect, even if we disagree with their morals.

Kids should be allowed to be kids; running around pushing people’s buttons and enjoying themselves but occasionally, or usually, this falls outside of people’s accepted behaviours.
Far better for a child to learn acceptance and tolerance of others, not that being well mannered and polite should be overlooked. Both are important in their upbringing.
I’m a bad influence on kids as i let be more free in what they do, but then I’m not having to deal with the aftermath as I can walk off and leaving it all to the parents.

I voted for considerate because I think that good behaviour is just a matter of culture. Every culture and even every group of people has another view on what is considered appropriate and inappropriate behaviour. If it was more important for a child to be well-behaved, then it would be less flexible in situations in which it has to deal with people who regard other things polite as they themselves. However, if a child is considerate, it can adapt to situations and to different groups of people and there is more chance of harmony across the cultures in general.
Of course, a certain degree of obedience is important for a society to function but in general thinking for oneself and tolerance is just more important, imo.

I voted for considerate. Children are only children once, and a very important part of this experience is to occasionally be cheeky.
My family is split on this issue, which makes for interesting times at Christmas…
