Ohhh Woman . Now that’s a laff. Ellie and I were just conversing this morning about being a grown up is overrated. I wanna stay Ahhh Girl!
It seems that most women get offended when they are called a girl as they think it is demeaning. Do you not feel this way? Do you ever feel strange being Ahhh Girl when you have lived most of your life as an adult woman? I have wondered about this before.

I’ll join you in remaining a girl forever.
In re: LPD’s post, I’ve heard women refer to themselves as girls (i.e. ‘Me and my girlfriends are going out to lunch’), so I think it depends on the usage.

I agree. Context is important. On the forum, I feel more like Ahhh Girl than Ohhh Woman .

That was a bad example because “girlfriend” is a word that we use referring to all female friends. It is not the same as calling someone a “girl”.
I agree that context matters, though. For example, in a colloquial setting, one could say something like “hey girl, you wanna come finesse with me at Target later?” and that would be appropriate to say to a woman or a girl.

We do. Between our time living in Maine and here in Pennsylvania, we haven’t had any trick-or-treaters since 2004. We still buy stuff though, just so we can eat it in case.

We get a few kids some years so we have candy on hand. If we don’t give it all out and don’t want to eat it ourselves, I have human vacuums called student workers who will gobble it up.

We don’t buy candy at my house so when kids come ring the doorbell we just don’t answer the door. I think last year my mom put a sign out saying not to ring the doorbell because we didn’t have candy. I think we put a bowl out one year but it got stolen so we don’t do that anymore.

How many folks here buy stuff to give away on Halloween – just in case?
We do.
Pretty much what Zig said. I’ve always lived in places that don’t get very many trick-or-treaters.
I usually go to the store on November 1 to get candy on clearance.

All of the children that lived around my street (my brothers and I were the only tots on our street) are too “old” now for trick or treating, heck I’m 18, if I had someone to go with me I’d still do it. I pass for a 14 year old and free sweets wa-hey!
Mam buys a few sweets but not that many seeing as the majority of kids just go to the estates because you can get loads in a short amount of time.

Trick-or-treating seems to be dyeing away. People I know who are parents say it’s safer for kids to attend Halloween parties instead.
That’s very silly, people these days are becoming so bloody scared of everything. So long as your kid is in a group of 3 or 4, they’ll be fine, no one will bother them and if you’re so worried about their safety you can walk along with them.
The one thing I hate though is the kids that get driven door to door by the parents, like the houses on my road are 10m apart from one another you don’t need to get into your 4×4 to move that distance, you have legs, use them!
No wonder there’s an obesity epidemic with children (fun fact, Ireland is the 2nd fattest country in Europe- GO US! We’re just behind the UK).

I won’t let my future kids celebrate Halloween. It’s not because I think it’s dangerous, though; it’s because I don’t want them to eat candy and also because I don’t want to have to waste my money on a costume they will wear once. I will justify it to them by telling them that celebrating Halloween is inviting the devil to dwell within your soul.

Tbf, trick-or-treating atheist child me would have been cool with that. So I get some devil guy to live within my heart but I get free sweets, sweets win obviously. You can solve the costume problem by just getting them a mask (say of like a skeleton) and wearing cheap black trousers and top and put white paint over where the bones should be and ta-da skeleton costume. You can also do the old sheet=ghost trick.

Could just give them some of your clothing to wear as a costume. Dress like an adult for Halloween.

Huh, my mom gave that exact reason to me for not doing Halloween. (Of course being a strict Christian, she meant it.)
