Which one is more exciting Christmas or New Year?
Christmas. I eat better on Christmas, but the alcohol content is fairly similar between the two. Think I’ll do a pork roast again despite the weather.

Easter. People seem to act worse than on New Years. There are crappy eggs and those idiotic buns (plain or chocolate chip!) for months ahead of time, they start them here in January.

I don’t buy into any of the holidays and would prefer it if they weren’t as exploited as much as they are by so many. Do something if you want to do something and if not then tell the world and everyone to get stuffed. Nowadays it seems like if you don’t don’t do anything for any of them you are selfish, alone, lonely, miserly, detestable, miserable and a plague upon society.

Probably Independence Day. I never was a fan of overweening American patriotism, and this seems to be the worst day of all for it. The hype is what gets me.
I’m so un-American, amn’t I

We have a growing problem with that in Australia, it’s a nationalism that feels forced and desperate, draped in flags and tacky sentiment. Ugh.

You’re a disgrace to your country!!! You should be decked out in the colours of the flag, singing ‘Born In The USA’ as loud as possible whilst drinking Pepsi, eating big mac’s, and digging in you’re neighbours yards without asking for permission first looking for oil.

Coke is what real Americans drink (unless they don’t drink soda/coke/pop/soft drinks in that case they both have water.)

Have we been reading the Stereotyper’s Guide To America again? I thought that was out of print.

The point of the comment was that it was the most exaggerated type of American as viewed from outside the country looking in. It was a comment on the idea that folk feel that they have to celebrate Independence Day in some way or they are not real proper Americans. Same goes for a hundred other holidays like Valentines Day, Christmas, Easter etc.
You also get the opposite approach where people feel nothing should be done to celebrate a Country’s history on a specific day as it may offend those who have since arrived or drive distance between everyone.

I have no problem calling Australia Day Invasion Day. I’d prefer to celebrate Federation than colonization.
