Just a head’s up. The DorisHicks account that has an upcoming birthday turned out to be spam. No need to wish that person a happy birthday.

Just because it was a spam account doesn’t mean that the birthday isn’t legitimate. Somebody took the time out of their day to put in their birthday on their profile so I think all that hard work deserves Doris some happy bday messages.

Please do not respond to spam, even if it is a birthday message. We have a very firm line when it comes to spam and do not want it encouraged in anyway.

I respect your wanting to stand up for someone’s efforts. It is an admirable quality, one I hope you never lose.
Like most things, there are two sides to this. On one side, not wishing someone a happy birthday may not seem right when everyone else is afforded the same courtesy. If anyone gets that, it is I. For proof, I point you to the first post of this thread to see who started this whole wishing of happy birthdays thing.
On the other side, there is the fact that the “member” in question is a known spammer. Before anyone asks how we know, take my word for it…we know. Therefore, anything contained within their profile can be deemed total BS just as easily as it can be seen as real. Additionally, as stated by mmm, we do not want to encourage spammy behavior in any way.
Having said that, nobody is telling you not to. We are just asking you nicely to let this one pass. I’m quite sure DorisHicks’ day will be unaffected by either eventuality.

I won’t post anything nice for Doris on her birthday, but instead maybe I will pray for her.
Why wasn’t she banned if she is a spammer, though? I thought you guys banned all spammers? Or do you just delete the spam posts and hope that they will later join in on the conversations as any other member of the forum?

A wonderful compromise. Thank you.

There are spammers, then there are spambots or the human equivalent thereof. The bots we have no love for. The spammers we hold out hope for.
Hope that helps.

I wasn’t here when Doris was, but yeah, I don’t engage spammers.

Well, it’s that day of the year again, another year older, and lots of fab messages.
Well, what can I say? Beyond the all too obvious…
Happy birthday to Sir David Attenborough, world famous naturalist and broadcaster, who reached 90 today.
Which goes without saying…
Oh…
…and thanks for all the birthday wishes sent my way.
