Parts of Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) and Homeward Bound by Simon & Garfunkel sound just alike. Was that on purpose? Have I missed a conversation about the similarity?

In my opinion, it isn’t intentional, in that Give Me Love was inspired by Homeward Bound; however, I do think George and Paul have much in common as songwriters, and are attracted to similar chords and harmonic structures, which can make their work sound similar.
The two did actually perform Homeward Bound together on Saturday Night Live in 1976:

I was wondering if there had been a lawsuit over the songs because those parts are so alike (exactly alike?).
Good song for the day. Why not post it!

My brain must be addicted to Paul because I seem to hear something Paulish in nearly every song I listen to at the moment. For example, the strings in the following two songs resemble each other quite a lot in my opinion (strings start at 1:30 in the former and 1:35 in the latter)
Additionally, this Steven Wilson song reminds me so much of a Paul song, probably from Flaming Pie or Chaos And Creation In The Backyard , but I can’t find out which one exactly. For example, the part from 0:36 on, I always think Paul sings backing vocals for some reason. Also, the piano from 1:05 onwards and the repeated ‘yesterday’ in the lyrics always make me think of Paul, I think I see ghosts…

SgtPeppersBulldog, BeatlebugNot once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Hi Guys! Resurrecting another dead topic here!
Around the 5:00 Mark of the Klaatu song called “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft” The backing vocals sound very similar to “Easy” by The Commodores even though the Klaatu song was released at least 9 months before Easy

Hm, I’ve never noticed that, I’ll have to go take a listen.

Listen to the first few seconds of All Together Now then listen to the first few seconds of Ringo’s Only You. Ringo nicked that for sure.

Yes, that song reminded me of Paul as well. It has that catchy upbeat melodic feel to it. I thought of something from New.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Green Day lately and 2 songs stick out as ripoffs.
1. Brain Stew and 25 or 6 to 4, the former’s whole song is pretty much AA GG F#F# FF EE whereas the latter’s main riff is AAAAA GGGGG F#F#F#F#F# FFFF EEEE.
2. Fashion Victim is so similar to Help ! that i’m surprised The Beatles didn’t sue Green Day over it, their verses both start off with A C# F# and the chorus is pretty much a copy paste of Help !, they both go from Bm, then to G, then to E, and then to a downward progression starting in A, only to end up strumming on an A chord.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

The first one yes perhaps, but I don’t hear the second one at all, @Dark Overlord . Maybe they have similar chord progressions but I couldn’t discern any notable comparisons at all, let alone something that would be grounds for a lawsuit.
If you want a Green Day ripoff that’s really identical though,

I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.

he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

In “Hush” by Billy Joe Royal (written by Joe South & later recorded by Deep Purple) the “nah nah nah nah” refrain is a direct rip-off from “A Day In The Life “!

The beginning of Winter Wonderland by Richy sounds so similar to the beginning of Little Woman Love by Paul. I was listening to Richy’s Christmas album a couple weeks ago and it threw me off. I was expecting it be Paul’s song for a second.

Ha, there’s a song on Holey’s solo album with an introduction that is identical to that of “She Said She Said ” for the opening four notes, guitar tone and all! (He says he didn’t notice until I mentioned it, and I believe it – the full intros are very different, as are the songs themselves. But it still made me inwardly shout “Beatles cover from Holey, AHA!” upon first hearing.

It’s identical except for one thing… the key. If you pitch shift my song down 1 semitone it’s identical
So there’s no way I could possibly be done for subconscious copyright… right?

I don’t know if this counts, but I use get the beginning riffs to “Sister Golden Hair” by America and “My Sweet Lord ” by George confused when I listened to an oldies station. I remember getting mad when the song turned out to be Sister Golden Hair. It’s not a bad song; however, I was hoping it was My Sweet Lord .

Okay, I have not yet seen anyone anywhere mention this, so it might just be me: but I have always thought the guitar riff from Zeppelin’s “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” and the main riff from Chicago’s 25 or 6 to 4 sound very similar. Thoughts? (I also noticed that this isn’t the first time Chicago has come up in this forum )
