I have no idea if there’s a thread already on the site about this, or if this is worthy of one. However, I’ve been thinking – about the power music has, the ability to lift someone up or knock them down, to remind them of a moment so good or so bad. For me, I have a couple of friends – one in particular – who one day, a couple of summers ago, I was golfing with. And they told me to listen to some music that night – Eminem’s catalogue and this other song – Dear God by Logic. Over the next weeks and months I listened to these songs. These songs… I cannot listen to these songs without being brought back to that course, with those guys… And I wonder. I wonder if it’s just me. Am I crazy, or do specific songs or specific artists bring back, evoke, these specific emotions or memories?
I don’t think there is a thread. I posted this earlier: https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..ne/page-2/. I had a cockamamie theory to go with it that I didn’t bother to post–something about the fact that the brain cells devoted to music appreciation are located in close proximity to the memory cells in the cerebellum, so there is some kind of synergistic synapsing going on. That’s not just junk science, it’s more like voodoo science.

Mr. KiteI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

My cockamamie theory has an advocate: Dr. Oliver Sachs. He is probably as full of crap as I, but he is much more distinguished and therefore credible.

Not exactly on topic, but when I was young, Yellow Submarine remind me of hippies, which is kind of understandable. But I also had this idea that hippies were just these awful, dirty people. Yellow Submarine was one of the first Beatles song I knew that were by the Beatles (sure I knew Here Comes The Sun and Hey Jude – I just didn’t know they were by the Beatles; I was actually quite shocked when I found out they were) so the song actually made me believe the Beatles were overrated and drove me away.

But fully on topic, Here Comes The Sun reminds me of road trips because my family would always listen to it in the car.
