Grew up pretty reluctant to this song as I heard it everywhere, also considering how much good not-as-well-known material there is in Prince’s discography overall. But I listened to it for the first time after years and somehow it clicked for the first time. I’ve been listening to it in loop for the past two days.

It depends how much of her music you’ve already heard. If you’re new to her, I’d go in chronological order through her albums, this is only the fifth one in twenty four years so it’s not too much of a task. I finally got to it today after slowly working through and absorbing her discography over the past couple of weeks. Her music and style clicked big time for me a few days ago, and after that hearing another album of her doing her unique style with just as much personality and attitude as ever was wonderful.
TL;DR – it probably won’t do much for you if you don’t dig her style already, but if you do it’ll go down a treat.

I have been trying to record “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty (and not the Heartbreakers *) and so it has been heavily stuck in my head for the better part of 24 hours
@WeepingAtlasCedars I just realized the music video is (incorrectly and misleadingly) titled “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – I Won’t Back Down” (FAKE NEWS!) so that’s probably the root of my previous confusion

Man, Sue Me, Sue You Blues is a great song. I first heard it when I was a kid, but I went years without listening to it. Now I’m getting back into it, and I’m really appreciating George’s brilliance. Like, he made litigation sound like a traditional country dance, somehow–I love it so much. So bitter, so funny, so George

Man, I really love the Changesnowbowie version of “Aladdin Sane”… our man really took a song that was absolutely flawlessly arranged, perfect by every metric, and totally reworked it into an equally fabulous totally different version. (also Gail Ann Dorsey is )
so much so that I decided to cover it

Just got out of my most recent Steely Dan phase myself. Each time I’ve gone into one of those phases, I’ve come to love another one of their albums–and so far it’s been chronological as well. First it was Can’t Buy A Thrill, then Countdown, and most recently Pretzel Logic (see my previous posts about listening to Barrytown incessantly). I will say I tire of them after awhile, but I always end up coming back to them eventually.

You still have my two favourite albums of theirs to discover, The Royal Scam and Aja!
They really are/were incredible musicians / storytellers / almost composers.

Aja is a full blown masterpiece. I also think Gaucho is a standout. Both of those albums are so smooth and well crafted. Royal Scam is great too. All three of those albums have their own feel. Each song is unique, but you can tell from hearing those albums that each song is slightly connected. I’m coming off an immense Dan kick myself, good to see other fans on here like me.

“Nowadays” has been stuck in my subconscious forever– as soon as I think I got the earworm kicked it comes back the next day
I know I posted last night in the “Listening” thread about how I was comparing different versions of it– and that only made the earworm worse. I’ve been singing it throughout the house all day, sometimes automatically without realizing. *sigh*

I love the film Chicago, although I’ve never heard/seen an interpretation of the stage show. But I’d recommend the film to everybody, it’s excellent. It got a bad rep because it beat The Pianist and Lord of the Rings on the Academy Awards back in 2002 but that film is still fantastic.
One of my favourite numbers is the one with the puppets/ventriloquism. In terms of narrative is fantastically fitting:

Very much agree– I freaking love the Chicago film, but I’m just a bit upset because of the numbers they had to cut (“I Know A Girl/Me and My Baby,” “When Velma Takes the Stand,” “Class”…..) I understand why they cut them but Me and My Baby is such a fun, comedic number that I would have loved to see Renee Zellweger tackle.
I also recommend to everybody– it’s fantastic! So many musicals-made-movies fall so short of what they were on the stage, but Chicago movie is really a terrific adaptation that rivals the stage show itself. And the actors! Oh God the actors do a freaking amazing job– Renee Zellweger is the perfect Roxie (sorry Gwen), Catherine Zeta-Jones is the perfect Velma (sorry Bebe), Richard Gere is the perfect Billy, Queen Latifah is the perfect Mama! Everyone’s just perfect!
One of my favourite numbers is the one with the puppets/ventriloquism. In terms of narrative is fantastically fitting:
Oh yes I absolutely love “We Both Reached For the Gun”– catchy and funny and visually beautiful and a wonderful number overall. Fosse dancing at it’s finest!

I woke up with “No Time To Die” by Billie Eilish (plz don’t judge me) in my head, because I heard this lovely cello cover yesterday:
I fully intend to go on a grand old Diamond Dogs kick later, though, seeing as its the album’s releasaversary…
